Help on buying a 300ZX!

Hi all, I'm looking at buying a 300ZX in the very near future. I wanted a manual one as am into driving hard and trackdays, but have been told by a few people that manuals eat gearboxes. Is this true?

Having test driven an auto yesterday I'm sufficiently impressed with the speed but felt it was lacking in driver involvement, although this was somewhat made up for as the car had Tein suspension and as such blinding handling.

My other question is to do with uprating the brakes, as I was not impressed with the feel or stopping power of the standard equipment. Any recomendations would be appreciated!

Thanks for your help on these matters and I look forward to your replies.

Hi,

My Z is for sale and it sounds like it might be just what your looking for. Check out my post in the for sale section under 'Steve E'. The car is a red 5sp manual with lots of modifications (500hp engine, 18" wheels, AP 6pot brakes, all uprated suspension etc etc)

I can send the full spec and some pictures over to you and the current 'race spec' engine rebuild has zero miles on it!!

As for your question, I wouldn't buy an auto. I have owned both now and can confrim that the auto box is weaker than the manual box when put under some spirited driving conditions.

As for the brakes.....stock are useless and definately no good if you want to run a few laps on a track. This is why I spent £££ on AP 330mm discs with 6 piston callipers.

Regards

Thanks for the reply Steve. So the manual ones should be fairly strong then even when pushed?

I'm looking for a car that I can also use day to day and not just as a trackday tool, so yours would be in too high a state of tune. I'm after something with around 300hp with small mods such as exhaust, induction kit etc.

Would like to see a couple pics of yours though as it sounds pretty damn smart, especially as red would be my preffered colour.
