I know this issue has been done ad nauseum but after having read all the previous posts I am still confused (could be the sleepless nights I've had ...)

My passenger side headlight just went (have a Jap Import TT) and I need a quick replacement as I do a lot of late evening/night driving.

I understand that my car takes H3 bulbs, but from your posts it would seem that these bulbs need modifying ... Is this correct? I am looking at getting a pair of these two bulbs:

1. PIAA HiLo bulbs (high output, low watt). H3 bulb draws 85W and produces 130W. Retails at £17.87 each.

or

2. Osram Super 30% brighter H3 bulbs - retailing at £9.95 each.

I know Harry Halfords does 30% brighter bulbs as well but will these fit and are they as shite as you claim them to be?

Alternatively, if any of you have a ready modified pair of bulbs spare I would like to buy them off you for a quick fix while I search for brighter bulbs - name your price.

I'm not going to be able to modify them myself as all my tools are in storage in The Netherlands so if any one could help I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks for your replies.

Jap Z's take H3c bulbs. H3 base, but with two terminals (both +ve and -ve) on the base of the bulb. UK H3 bulbs will fit the bulb holder..

*BUT*

They won't work.. UK H3 bulbs have the -ve connection through the base plate, and the +ve via a flying lead. To work in a Jap Z you have to solder an extra -ve lead to the base plate and put a spade terminal on the end.

If you need Jap spec bulbs try the Z Centre or MJP. Failing that your only option is to make you own.

Yes.. I know my back wheels *were* on backwards.. They're not now, 'k? ;)

BTW - I'd steer clear of the 85w bulbs.. Spec is 55w - the wiring should take 85w (7A draw instead of 5A), but I'm not entirely sure the relays/fuses would...

Thanks Az - I'll give Luke @ the ZCentre a call later on today.

BTW - I've seen posts on here from people who have 100W bulbs and no problems for months, what gives? Did they change the relays/fuses?

Cheers!

Danny

A number of people have also noted that the 100w bulbs fail quite frequently, this could be heat related.
