Was it around the 112mph area?

Not sure, run an ecu diagnostic see what it throws you, I know if the AFM is malfunctioning you will be limited but that is to about 2.5k, 5k i'm not sure, could be other sensor that is faulty, give some more details like does it do it all the time / only in a certain gear / speed? when warm / when cold?

 

Then I am sure someone like duffer can give you some good advice.

the battery on the car had been disonected for a month reconnected when i picked it up this morning

drove for 2 hrs on damp roads taking it easy

roads dried

booted it in second

shock when it hit limiter at 5000rpm

went like a train to 5000 tho!!!

So it cant be the speed limter. Any ECU code? Have you done a test?

Basically

 

Ignition on

 

Take up the carpet in the passenger footwell.

unbolt the wooden panel underneath.

 

You can see the ECU.

On the left side off the ECU there is a slot with a LED and a little screw in it.

turn the screw fully clockwise wait for 2 seconds and then turn it back. If you get it correct the LED will flash and the check engine light on the dash will flash the same.

 

You will have long flashes and short ones. Count the long flashes. These are your tens, so if there are 3 long flashes thats 30.

 

After the long flashes there will be short flashes. These are you units. So if you get 5 short flashes that is four. There will be a pause before it goes back to the tens again.

 

So the long 3 flashes and 5 short equals 35.

 

The codes are

 

11: crank angle sensor circuit

12*: air flow meter circuit

13*: engine coolant temp. sensor circuit

14*: vehicle speed sensor circuit

21: ignition signal circuit

26*: boost pressure sensor

31*: ECU

32*: EGR function

33*: exhaust gas sensor circuit (left)

34: detonation sensor circuit

35*: exhaust gas temp. sensor circuit

42: fuel temp. sensor circuit

43*: throttle position sensor circuit

45*: injector leak

51*: injector circuit

53*: exhaust gas sensor circuit (right)

54: signal circuit from A/T control to ECU

55: NO malfunctions in the above

I had the same problem when the "black box" speedo converter on my zed went t1ts up, pulling like a train then like hitting a brick wall when the rev limit kicked in. My solution was to buy a set of uk clocks, no need for black box, have the rev limiter/ speed limiter lifted on the chip

I really felt for him when i drove off

I dont even want to think about how gutted he was, but he will be happier if it is going to someone who will look after it. Do you remember if your stearing feel changed, when the limiter cut in? It happened to me that way, everybody said it was the speed sensor (the power steering is affected by speed) but as posted above it was the box of tricks, they seem to go whenever they feel like it,, which is why I changed for the uk spec clocks

Very strange

took her out tonight

HICAS light came on for a bit then went off!

once warm she went all the way to 6000rpm !!!!

sweet as a nut. FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!

top the fluid up with Castrol TQ Dexron III

hicas light now off

still leaking tho

car goes to 6500rpm if taken there gently

if you floor it it bangs into the limiter at 5000rpm then drops to 2000rpm

turning it off then on again helps

strange

will run ecu diag at the week end

oil pressure starts at 4 when cold then drops to 2 when warm!!!
