Blocked relief valve in the filter? Or dodgy sender?

will changing the filter rectify the blockage? how do i find out about sensor?

cheers

Relief valve is in the oil pump tho...

On my 91 UK spec the relief valve in inside the aluminium 'thing' that the filter screws into.

Could be that crud has accumulated behind the piston valve and is stopping the spring from compressing properly.

I've attached a pic, hope it helps anyway

Cheers

Thats the valve that allows flow to the oil cooler though isn't it???? The pressure relief valve is usually in the oil pump and vents back to the sump...

Maybe... The manual I've got states that as the 'regulator', however, it doesn't show any valve even exists on the filter-mount assembly (LC-5), what it does show is the pressure sensor sender unit mounter there instead - which isn't the case, since we both know that's fitted to the N/S turbo oil feed pipe. The manual also says the 'relief valve' is one of those ball-bearing valves in the filter-mount assembly - so that if the oil filter becomes totally blocked, or the regulator fails - the relief valve pops open, and oil bypasses it. (LC-6 to 7)

My manual also has no mention of the oil cooler which I've got too, so I think Nissans documentation is letting us down here.

Andy, is your car a UK or Jap spec? Just wondering if the regulator is actually in two different places - similarly to the pressure-sender placement being different.

Si.

they suffer with oil pressure switch problems get that changed first as it is the cheapest option, there a nighmare to change at the rear of the engine

Simon, mine is a UK car. I think the relief valve on the filter bracket is only there for any problems in the bracket itself. The oil pressure relief valve has to be in the pump so it can vent back to the sump - how else would it relieve pressure? It obviously aint gonna just spray it all over the road... :D

Have you put 7 litres of oil in your engine?

Check the oil level!

lol

Sorry but I'm not up on import guages too well. When the car is up to temperature, where abouts on the scale does the needle sit? 1/3, 1/2, 1/4, 3/4 ???

8 bar on the guage is right at the top....

True, true. I've since looked at some other pictures I took of my oil pump, and I can see a large screw-cover which houses the pump regulator! Doh..

Still, I got to post a picture which brightened the thread up a bit :)

BTW, when you gonna get your car down the dyno then? I think there's several people on here who'd be interested to see what the PE1420's and those manifolds can do for a VG30.
