Hi ,

I've got a new fuel filter from Halfords and have fitted it tonight to my Z. The new Filter is much smaller and so can't be secured by the existing bracket. I'm thinking of running water through the old filter in hope of cleaning it, letting it dry out and then refitting it to my Z. Does this sound OK or really stupid????

Thanks in anticipation,

Van

I think personally I'd play safe and go to Nissan to get the correct OEM filter..

I forget what the filter material is made of though.. Thats just me being paranoid smile.gif

Problem with a smaller filter is that it may flow less fuel than the original, lead to low fuel pressure and poor running etc.

And no I definitely wouldn't try washing the filter with water. If REALLY desperate I MIGHT trying flushing it with something like meths or iso-propyl alcohol and then blowing it through BACKWARDS with an air line, but a new one would be favourite.

Ditto what Andy has said no, no, no, to water replace it with a Nissan one. Jeff TT

Thanks for your advice guyz. I'll play it safe..bugger, I've just spent 20 minutes cleaning the old filter-D'oh. Does any one know how much the stock filter from Nissan will be about. The guy at Holfords told me £80. Please tell me he's wrong.

Cheerz fellaz,

Van

I've been had. The b*****ds charged me £33 for a Corsa sized filter.

Hey, easy. Not sure about that. I bought one from eBay in the US that cost be about £13 all in though.

Nissan fuel filter

You guyz have been a great help. Cheerz.

When I bought one £18 was about right. £80 my ass. Take the other one back and get your money back on it. Longas you havent used it of course!!

don't risk ruining your car to save a few bucks.

Like the oil filter, they are cheap from Nissan so I'd use nothing less...

If you plan ahead it's $10 from Courtesy Nissan + the usual. And the oil filter is under $5 !

Robbing Harry's bastards!!!

how often should the fuel filter be changed and is it easy to do?

not too difficult; the fuel lines can be a pain to pull off, though.

Hi fellas,

I've got the fuel filter from Nissan in Stoke on Trent for only £11.36......Bargain (by the way they have 24 in stock there if anyone near needs one). If only Halfords hadn't lied in the first place.........

Cheerz,

van

Oh.....I got a full refund from Halfords even though I'd used the filter. Mind you, I did tell them at the time that I was unsure about the filter they gave me because it was soooo small. Perhaps they were just ill informed and thought they were doing me a favour......

Laterz,

Van

Oddly enough I just did my fuel filter too smile.gif

Managed to take a chunk out of one of my fingers in the process, and get my hands covered in petrol (well at least it cleaned the oil off biggrin.gif).. But its done now..

Top tip: don't get petrol in an open wound... It stings biggrin.gif

Az, Cheers for that advice. I'll put that beside 'don't smoke while changing fuel filter' m8. Hehe.

Van

Hi,

I have a brand new fuel filter, which I don't need now. It's anyone's for £10 inc. postage.(You will probably find that the smaller diameter filter was for a Z31 300ZX...I had the same problem.)
