I like the fact there are not many 300ZXs on the road. Yes you get times when you see loads in a day, but you can go months without seeing another one.

I am also glad that it doesnt get too much attention in the magasines as then you will get 17 year spotted idiots trying to buy one and then doing awful things to it, driving it like what you a 17 year old will in a powerful car. That then wil bring the whole image of the 300ZX down. You cant look at a young male driver in a Corsa, Nova or Saxo with out thinking he is a boyracer/idiot, when infact they just use their car to get from A to B in a normal fasion.

The fact there are no Zs in the 10 of the best, is mostly due to cost. If you are serious about modding a car just for high BHP numbers and events like that you get a Skyline or Supra because they are cheaper to modify. Many of the large powered Supras and Skylines ditch the twinturbo setup for a single large turbo set up, which drastically reduces cost. Our 300ZXs, its engine out to change the turbos, and you are restricted for turbo size by the room at the sideo of the engine. That makes it more expensive to modify to huge power.

So if you are intending to make a big powered car you get those ones as they are easier to work on. That is why they are not in the magasines as much and that is why they are not as well known.

I love the "what is it?" attitude you get with the car. People ask me about it and are interested about it, I will talk to them and tell them about it, which I have done a few times. Most rememberable was a man maybe in his 40s was talking to me while I was parked up while my girlfriend was getting money from a cash machine and his wife was. He came over and started looking and asking, before his wife shouted "I told you, you're not getting one", an other time I was at a petrol station in Dunoon, Scotland when a lad behind the counter came out, I thought there was a problem and he started looking round and asking questions.

People know nothing about the car and dismiss it as a cráp car or slow, are we really bothered about them? Im not.

Look how many Zd's you see on the roads compared to the scoobies, skylines, evos etc. They are common as S-H-I-T and look so boring and uninteresting regardless of how well they drive  . The Z is exclusive.

How many of you have sat in these cars? The interiors and dashboards have been designed by MAN AT BURTONS!! The Z interiors were designed by MAN AT HUGO BOSS!!

You can stick these cars where the sun don't shine. These are cars built for the masses, so let them drive them and leave us to our individuality. :D

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZED  :hyper:

Who cares what other people think, I own and drive the car because I love it, nobody elses option matters.

I owned a probe before deciding to get a Z (still havnt got one though), and the reason I chose the probe over other cars in my budget (2k ish, so calibras, old celicas etc) is because it is a bit rarer and understated. I loved my probe to bits, they are very good cars to drive, the comfort level and quality is definately far above usual ford levels, and its got a mazda engine/internals instead of a ford one. I had countless people ask me what it was too, I debadged mine and had 18" rims on it, and it looked like it had come out of the factory like it.

The reason im going for a Z next is for the same reasons, and obviously for alot more power. I have said to my mates about it and they are like "naa they are ugly and slow". The first statement I couldnt belive, (I think they look georgeous!), and the second, slow, well I thought that too before I started thinking about them a bit more. I always considered them to be slow simply cos they are big (although they arent, they just look it, my probe was actually bigger dimensions wise), and didnt really know anything about them.

For some reason certain cars have stigmas that they cant shake off. The probe is considered a **** american car, and I think that is mainly due to the crappy whalnut whip style alloys you get on the 16v, and the name.

The 300zx, not sure, but having said about them to people they all come up with the same "looks poo, and they are slow".

Kids who drive nova's who know about skylines and supras know about them for one reason. a film called "the fast and the furious". Without that film the supra would still be exclusive-ish, and the skyline would still be unheard of at large.

I remember before the film come out, like a few years before, and supra's were rare, as were skylines. since then, I see supras at least 3 times daily doing a 1 mile drive lol. Skylines... well, I see alot more standard r33's on the road than before.

Imagine if the 300zx was in that film... I think there would be alot more on imported and on the road, and nova boys would know about em!

Personally, I like the fact the 300zx is a bit of a sleeper. I also think its a shame that the car makes few appearances at rwyb's etc (from what I've seen/read).

yadayada :P

Perhaps the "poor image" is related to the unfortunate designation. Afterall, there are 2 300ZX models (Z31 & Z32). IMO the Z31 looks old, American, soft and slow.

The Z32 is gorgeous and goes like stink.

Maybe people think of the 300ZX as the fat old one (no disrespect meant to owners of such!!!) ;)

In any case - I LOVE MINE!!!

The first time I saw a Zed I was in my old S13. My first thought was OMG! and that is pretty much the opinion I get from everybody I have spoken to.

I live out in the sticks, which gives people plenty of opportunity to slow down and gawp as they drive past while the Zed is out of the garage and trust me they do!

Never have I had a car that can do what the Zed can. Okay, handling may not be a match for some but who the hell is going to take you in a bend anyways? For me, it is the perfect match of ego, balance, control, comfort and outright power.

Who wants respect from Joe Soap? It is partially because we don not enjoy being average that we drive these cars, surely?

But there are 2 versions of the Supra (3 of you count the Celice Supra I think it was), and 2 versions of the RX-7 (3 if you class the RX-7 Turbo II as another one). There are 8 versions of the Mitsubishi Evo and millions of versions of the Subaru. 3 versons of the Celica GT-Four, 3 versions of the MR2. 3 versions of the modern Skyline GT-R not to mention various NA and Turboed non-GT-R versions.

So I dont think we can say it was due to the Z31. The Z31 was a good car when it was out.

are we living paralell lives

try all of the above, i've never felt so happy in my zed.... something special about it... minute i saw saw it that was it

i agree with everyone and it's even more fun being a woman driving as the young lads, men and kids gawp at the car then they gawp at me as they were expecting a bloke to be driving :p

since i've had my car back (1 week) my zed has had it's picture taken by a tourist, had 3 people come up to me and ask me for a lift to see how it feels, been waved at on numerous occasions and to round it off had a zed meet, with all the other zed nuts

this is pretty normal... for some reason this car intrigues the national psyche (i'm getting deep now) :D

the feeling of just driving it its just awesome :hyper:

we are the lucky ones to be here right now driving this car :D

Hi5,

Slow...SLOW....you must be joking. I had an S13 (200SX) before my Z and that didn't hang about, but the 300 is simply awsome. Unless you get to drive 300+ BHP cars on a regular basis you will not be dissapointed, if you drive a 16v Probe every day you will be gob smacked. They do look heavy but they feel light on their feet once moving at a respectable velocity.

As to looks, eye of the beholder as with anything. Personally I think they are lovely but I am a die-hard Nissan fan.

I've had mine 10 days now and I've never looked back :)

Seriously, they are sh1t hot. I challenge you to find a better GT car for the money.........see, you can't do it!

im glad i started this thread most if not all of you love ya zed,and the big word is being differant from the boring rally heritage as scoobys look like MONDEOS we have jap performance,as it is the nicest looking car to come from japan iaint looking back,part from in my mirror at the tosser behind zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz :D my misses aint happy she wanted a scooby so my 2 kidz can get in what does she know ;SELFISH MALE SHOVENIST PIG;

surely handling is down to driver ability, unless you(not personally!) have put a supra tt against a zed on a track with the same driver in each how can you possibly tell??

not being a git just interested as to how you come to that conclusion

I've had a Lotus Excel a few years back and the way it turned into corners was fantastic!!! Thats my bench mark and so I find that the ZX does not have fast steering - yeah it holds the road well but that's it. And I find the Supra steering is more responsive.

Geoff.

Agree with Tanzx, Mine seems to ''tramline'' on any

imperfections on the road (quite a few!), but it's

something i've got used to.

The Z is the perfect car......as far as i'm concerned.

It's got looks, power & most of all......value for money.

Some cars have cool interiors but look crap, some the

opposite. The Z has it all.

I'm the one who: Chose & paid for it, insures it, puts fuel in it!,

drives it, cleans it, etc......so if people think they're slow &

ugly, thats fine with me. They can just get back into their

Hyundai coupes ( ) & ****off! :D

...there's a purity of line in the design of the Z that upsets a lot of people. If you look at it, there's no overworked styling cues (unless you stick on all those aftermarket plastic bits) and this upsets people as the Japanese ''can't do sports cars''... Well I'm sorry mate, but they can. Or can they because if you follow this thought forward, take the Supra, tries to have a purity, but still comes out all Darth Vader. MX5, retro. Think of a few others and none of them stack up - so really the Z32 was possibly the first and the last?

...got to go, work calls.

Jack

It's a lovely, lovely GT and it's quick in a straight line. It's not a rally homologation car so it's not even worth comparing with those. It's rear-wheel drive. It's got a FANTASTIC cockpit. It hasn't really dated. It handles amazingly for a ton-and-a-half with no active trick bits. (In fact, I've not driven one with shocks newer than 10 years old, it must have been amazing.) There's plenty of mods out there if you want them.

It's 5 grand.

How can you argue with that?

One of the biggest benefits of a ZX is that it has a timeless look and style, why else would it have such a good worldwide following and yes people do come up and ask what it is as they cant date it.It was an advanced car when it emerged and had the power and performance of then perceived supercars but!!! it was Japanese and we all know about badge engineering!

The fact that it was so good is the reason it is popular today and again can still be made to give todays supercars a run for their money and it is 10yrs +

Ive had some of the "supercars" and because of the 300s appeal and elusiveness I chose mine and with the choice of other cars in the market

the above qualities and the comaraderie (and of course the club)of the likeminded owners,I choose to stay where I am-phew!!!

Paul Newman won a race season in USA in a ZX !!!

He loved them !!!

As everyone else has said - the ZX is a conversation piece !

And it turns 90% of the country's heads - when it rolls past at 20 or when it its purring at 165 !!

hi just just joined today, took my z to abbey motorsports,a skyline owner said if he was driving across europe, he would rather take a300 than he,s skyline.

There is a Classic car museum in the US and they have had a space ready for the 300ZX since 1994 I think it was. Problem is their policy says they only allow cars which are not in production to be displayed. They waited for 6-7 years to put it in and I think they actually got THE last one made.

I can understand the cruising of the 300ZX. The car is so laid back and lazy when cruising which is what you want when doing so. Even though the car is laid back you accelerate hard, the car does the hard work and you are still laid back.

With the T-Tops off it opens you up to the world.

I have never driven a Skyline but I have heard from a few sources that you have to really push it to get the best out of it. So that says to me, when driving normally, crousing or touring, the car wont seem special. Its only when pushed it stands out, and to me, that is not what touring or cruising is about.

I could be completely wrong though, as I have never driven a Skyline ;)

u shouid be gettin some shut eye mate,my mates got a skyline and yeah the force of the spot is fast and he enjoys my zed when he wants to drive, his ego doesent admit that but deep down you know!!!his attitude is yeah my skylines the greatest but i think he wouid like to take the top of his car  not slaggin the car but like u say the cars laid back but when u want to drive hard she will shame about the ass end needs a diet and some goodyear f1 S

arr still someone up then

going to bed now though m8 just to say welcome to the forum and happy zedin

 I used to own a Skyline and they are very punchy, there seems to be a more instantaneous delivery of power where as the Z is slower at launch but the mid to top is better I think. I much much prefer driving my Z to my old Skyline any day of the week it's just a quality drive, no more to be said than that really. OH ! YES and they look much better than the Skyline.

don't forget that the zed is no longer in preoduction - and hasn't been for quite some time. Scoobys and Evos are reincarnated every couple of years so they're still current and I'm not too sure about the Skylines, but they may be the exception to any rule as they now have a total cult status in the world of modified vehicles.

The Skyline is still in production, but looks bugger all like any of its previous models.
