I currently have the exhaust system off my zed t/t. Would it be worthwhile removing the, cats and if so, what gains, if any would be achieved.

If you remove the cats it will reduce the life of the tubbies(oil seals). Thats if it a turbo. If you do a search there has been many threads about this.

That's what t/t Means.

Doo!

remove the cats and get some decent turbos. :)

I have just had the cats off my NA, it's very noisy and so far I'm not sure about the performance gain over the noise. Carefully considering it at the moment.

Does anyone know how much the sound of the exhaust is increased by the cats being taken off? The guy who fitted the exhaust said about 60% of the noise will be because it's de-catted. I think it might be just a bit more noisy than I anticipated. As someone advised me, I had decat pipes put in so I had the option of putting the cats back on if I needed. Thought this was a good idea.

If they are put back on, would they need sealed in place or just bolted back in?

hi rich,

i had an na and after putting stainless steel backboxes on it was fairly loud from luke@zedcenter but i had my decatted while the original boxes were still on and it wasnt that much louder as the orginals are quite restrictive -nas are inherently louder than tts. i did notice a perfomance gain after decatting

You can always get a couple of small straight through mufflers to fit where the cats used to live. That makes driving that much more comfortable, but does not restrict the flow. I'm doing that to my TT because I want to hear the car growl not roar.

Could you tell me a bit more than that- this is what I want too, growl not roar. I have de-cat pipes in there, do they get fitted there, or in place of the cat material in the cat pipes or what? Will the decat be what is making the roar? Would the fitting place make up the mufflers or do you buy them or what- I would be grateful for more on this as it sound like the solution to my problem. Keep some growl/burble, but not the deafening resonance.
