My standard Nissan rims are starting to get pitted. I dont know if they were coated by the previous owner or not. Is there any kind of spray coating that I can use, to tie me over till I can get some new rims ?

i think the only way would be to strip them back and respray them. as a stop gap you could just buy a can of laquer. that would stop them getting any worse. make sure they're very dry first. i do have an ulterior motive for replying to the thread. i have a question for you . i have heard from a reliable sourse that you are the man to speak to ref: boost jets and chips. if this is correct. can you please let me know as i'm mucho interested. further to above, i'll give my mate a call he's a painter so he may know of something for your wheels.

Tack.........you have the wrong John Dixon, I had to use DixonJohn as a user name, because there is a person who has the username "JohnDixon" on this forum.

I think my rims are beyond the stage of salvaging them with laquer, I would be interested to hear what your fried has to say about painting them though.

Cheers,

John

ok. my bad. i'll still do some investigation on the wheels for you.

Wouldn't recommend a temp job, you'll only have to redo it again when you want a proper job doing, and then you'll have to pay to strip off whatever you've put on!

..and thanks for clearing up the stereo John Dixon Business!

could have got quite confusing!

I sanded mine down with some fine sandpaper - got all the mess off them - then sprayed them with primer - then sprayed them with silver wheel paint - then lacquered them up - Cost about £20 for the paint and 2 afternoons to do them - they wont stand to abuse as well as properly finished rims but they are more than good enough to use - mine have syated good for about 6 months so far so its good value for money until you get them done proffesionally!

Thanks Bilky,

Where do you get the paint and laquer from ? What brand was it?

Cheers

It was from Halfords - I bought some metal primer - red colour, and the silver wheel paint in the big cans and the same lacquer - cant remember but I think it was Simoniz paint. Covers quite well.

Just bought some 5 spoke of Ebay yesterday a bit pitted .went down the Halfords spent £18 on black & lacquer and some paper.Did one of the wheels last night took about hour n half come up treat.Had a quote to recondition the wheel £80 each

suck my tube

What a prick

Just spent 3 night tidying up a set of 17" wheels bought of ebay of a lad who has a Jap 300zx same year .The wife just took them to have the tyres changed of my rims to them .Looked niced then found that they did not fit as they hit my brembo .what a stupid t**t I feel   :nelson:
