I've got myself a UK oil cooler and I understand from searching that I can do a straight swap for my current import one. The only question I have is how much oil will I lose?

If there's a pressure switch I'm assuming I'll only lose the contents of the current cooler, then top up after the change?

Don't want to do a full change as it's been less than a 1k miles since I changed it.

Yep, that's right, just what I did on mine. Seem to recollect having a little trouble with the pipes though - I think I used the UK spec pipes in the end because they're slightly longer.

As the oil coolers sit above the level of the sump and the pipes run up to it the oil losS will be very little.
