Hiya all, can anyone tell me what the elec. fan does in front of the smaller rad cause this weekend it's come on all the time. I've not heard it before. Popped the bonnet up & wiggled the yellow connector on the water outlet pipe to the rad and it stops & starts, obviously dodgy connector, but I was wondering whether it should be on all the time or whether I got an overheating problem or not. Please, anybody with any ideas cheers.

The fans prime job is for the air con condensor, however I believe the ecu has the abiltity to use it when the car is overheating and the dodgy connector is very common and causes the fault you have, I am not sure if the ecu will also default to safety boost if it thinks the engine is overheating..maybe, sort out the connector,I and others have had this problem, some I have seen have soldered the cable direct to the sensor. cheers Jeff, am I correct in thinking that if it was a dodgy coolant temp sensor that it would put the check engine light on??? Also this could be why the aircon isn't that cold?? Anyways cheers I'm off to get soldering iron out!!!

Jonny if your engine check light is on do an ecu diagnostic (dead easy) and the fault code should pin point the prob. I don`t think the dodgy connecter would do it,well it

did`nt on mine anyway. Jeff TT

Leccy fan is 2 speed on the TT. There are 2 relays in the box on the RHS. Check that one of them isnt broken.

It's well worth looking at all the connectors as mine came on for no apparent reason. A good clean and rough up of the metal contact parts seemed to fix it.
