It started a few weeks ago when my wife was driving along and the dreaded stone from hell hit the windscreen causing it to spider. I phoned my insurance and was happy to hear that the would fix it for £60. They arrived today to put it in but when they got the new screen out it was noticed it was blue with a blue sun strip because mine is a jap import the screen is bronze/blue. "not to worry" i was told, i will phone my boss and order the right one. Few minutes go buy and the lad then told me there was a new screen on order but could take upto 6 months. :( I asked him how much and was told £1500 supplied and fitted!!!! but its only going to cost me £60. What im asking is this right and to warn people to get windscreen insurance.

I would take the UK one, the colour makes no difference. As far as insurance goes, it depends who your with. Im with Direct line and I pay £360 fully comp. When I was thinking of swapping it for a turbo 300zx, I called them, they said a twin turbo was the same insurance group as the n/a, and there would not be any more to pay. I stressed that both mine and the turbo was an import, and would she double check that she was quoting an import. She daid she would check with the technical department and call me back.

She called back in about 30 minutes to confirm, twin turbo import £360 fully comp.

yea, there are some companies about that make no extra charge for imports, mine would have been the same for an import as for my UK. but they are few & far between

The glass will have to come from Japan, and to ship something that large and heavy and with the upmost care cost a lot of money.

Its not so much the sun strip problem. UK ZXs have a dark/blue tint to the glass while Imports have a gold/yellow tint to the window.

Someone posted a picture of the difference in UK and Jap glass. It was an import with a UK windscreen and I thought it really looked bad. The colour difference was really noticable. Maybe it was just the light in the photo. Can't you get one from a breaking Jap zed? or is that not allowed or something?

I got a stone on the screen but luckily it was repairable. Guess we need to double check the right glass is covered on the insurance. Bit hard to drive round for six months without a screen though

There is an information request from you Rich.

"Hey Rich"

the reason i haven't investigated the fact of getting aone from a breakers is most likely it would cost more than £60. The sreen is legal at the moment so no worries there. Just goto go around with an imperfect screen.... never mind;matches the wife LOL(only Joking)

Jonce,

I had a rear windscreen fitted by a guy that the breaker in Birmingham uses (where I got the screen from) for £100 all in. I watched him, he did a nice job, was very carefull.

I think it depends on how bronze the rest of your glass is. I replaced mine with a UK one and though the front is obviously blue, the rest of the glass has no tint at all so it looks just fine :D

Just about to post a few pics in the General area if you want to see

the glass fitter told me mine were very bronze. He even placed the new screen over mine on the care and the new screen stood out a mile. :(

wouldn't mind having a gander at the differences.

When I had my import front windscreen replaced (on insurance, £50 excess) it was the same bronze tint and available immediately. Might be worth phoning around to see if one already exists in the UK.
