Gearbox Swop

I need to change my gearbox and was wondering if it is fairly straight forward. Also does anyone know if an import auto box is the same as a UK spec one.

Hi Soppy,

If your mechanically competent, and ideally can get the car up on a lift (or very high if not) its very straight forward although a little tight to get at some of the upper bell housing bolts, and the filler tube gets in the way and is awkward to say the least to remove and refit!!.

Uk box and Jap box are different, at least regarding elctrical side of things, as jap has switchable features (Hold,Power,& Normal) UK doesn't, if its feasable to interchange.... I personally don't know, theres plenty of people on here would though I'm sure, I would expect it's much simpler to get a like for like box.

Other alternative if you fancy it, and not much more work while the box is out, would be a manual conversion, but you need to be a very good home mechanic to attempt!!

Thanks for that Paul most helpful,i've had the offer of an import box and don't want to get if it won't fit, hope someone else can throw more light on it for me.

if you don't want to convert it to manual and want a reconditioned uk autobox, mine has a very good autobox, you supply me with a good manual gearbox with bits required (pedals/ clutch mastercyl/slave cyl/ gearstick/) already got flywheel/clutch.and Ill supply you my gearbox in exchange

hows that?
