Spent another afternoon working on the car..

Went to Halfords, and invested in a 3tonne speedlift hydraulic jack - I can highly recommend them.. However - take a mate with you.. I can barely lift it on my own! (The back end of the Renault went down about 2" when I put it in the boot, it's *that* heavy)..

My top tip for jacking the car up - drive the front onto some 2x4" planks, then the jack goes straight under the front, onto the crossmember and jack in the middle smile.gif

Changed the oil (Mobil1 15w50), oil filter, and fuel filter.. Sliced my hand open nicely doing that one!

Started the car up and within about 5 seconds the tappets all shut up nicely smile.gif Lovely jubbley!

Now I just need to locate the coolant leak (drivers turbo feed I think frown.gif), and stop the PS reservoir outlet weeping frown.gif, sort the boost gauge out which mysteriously stopped working when I had the dash out, and do the spark plugs (Just *how* far down there are they!?)..

For another day I think!

You obviously live in a completly different part of the work than me cos its been pissing it down for hours here

Well done mate. It's quite funny but I've got the clicking sound from the tappets as well. Did the oil change ( Magnatec) & new oil filter last week without a jack. Had to park the car close to down sloping road to get underneath. It was very tricky as there wasn't that much room. The tappets still taps away but stops sooner after the engine is warm. Today I changed the fuel filter ( got splattered) and that hasn't made any difference to the tapping tappets.

Well, I guess you're lucky m8.

Good luck with the sparkies..apparently they are very far down. I'll be checking mine another weekend.

Laterz,

Van

Yup - they're so far down that I need to get another extension for my ratchet!

Typically I also discovered that some of the plastic retaining clips on the coil pack connectors are bust.. Looks like I'll be getting a replacement kit for that too then!
