Right dont know if this has been done but how about . . .

modifying the front light wash to pray directly onto the intercoolers.

this way you dont need new pumps, etc

I never use the headlight wash so I dont care if thats gone.

would it make much difference to speed?

would you spray every few seconds when on full throttle?

I have been looking at a inteligent cooling system.

You really need the water to be more fine than what your head light washers squirt, plus it will have soap in it as its the same water supply as your window wash. This may cause more damage than good, I dont know.

I have been looking into a system wich automatically sprays water on the intercoolers when they reach a certain temperature. It works by spraying in pluses depending on the temperature. For example, if the intercooler is at xxºC it will spray for 2 seconds and then wait for 2 seconds for it to take effect and then spray for 2 seconds. As the intercoolers cool down it sprays less water and leaves a longer gap between each spray, and the opposite happens when they get hotter, it sprays water for longer.

I have just been waiting for my funds to recover a little before actually paying out money.

see, problem with that is pounds.

Im running out of pounds fast so thought I might try and get a fine mist spray nozzle.

soap would not be a prob coz I could always just use water.

Try it then.

Only problem is, you have to have your lights on to make the water spray work. Head light spray doesnt work with the lights off. ;)

I was going to do that but my mate showed me this water spray system and I thought I may have a go at that.

I leave headlights on all time anyway :) must be the volvo in me breaking out.

how much is this system your looking at?

Does it really make much difference on a basic modded car .i.e boost jets, chip upgrade, intake and exhaust.

Jay, I will be interested if you are able to do it with the light washer using a differant spray nozzle. I was thinking of doing this my self to save a few pounds but am not machanicaly minded enough at the moment to do it. Keep us informed if you decide to do it.

what about using a pressure switch so it squirts when you hit a certain PSI?

For comparison:

I have tried NOS intercooler sprays and using 100HP jets spraying on the IC you get around 30HP increase.

Personally I'd rather inject that NOS into the engine and make better use of it.

Water is of course very cheap so anything that helps the intercooler heat transfer efficiency must be good. So long as the thing driving it doesn't consume more power than you gain.

Pete

Why dont you go out and buy the Aqua Mist system all of the brain work is done for you then ?

Aquamist is different - that sprays water into the intake. Same basic effect though ;)

The problem with spraying the ICs is that you have to fully atomise the water which involves high pressure pumps and fine jets. It does work and there are systems out there - but the headlamp washers will just dump a squirt onto a very small area of the IC.....

Aquamist also do an intelligent intercooler spray as well and I don't think it costs too much but could be wrong as most things for the zed cost an arm and a leg !!!

so we couldnt just use a fine mist nozzle on the washer pumps. :(

Yeah but a 2 second spray wont do too much. You really need it when flooring it or just before flooring it and it means you will have 1 hand of the washer button while driving.

You may not know whether you really need it or not. There is no point spraying cold water on to intercoolers that dont need it.

Ask AdamR about the Aqua mist setup he had installed on his old Z by D P Motorsport he said that he wasn't that impressed with it and basically thought it was a waste of money.
