I've got this red warning light that came on yesterday that looks like a rectangular box with tubes coming out each side and wavey lines coming out of the top. Does any one know what this is? I was close to home so I killed the engine and rolled. My temp guage was fine too...?

The cats can over heat!?! How the hell does that work? There isn't a list of these lights somewhere is there? I've been searching around everywhere but I can't find jack.

Hi,

It's when unburnt fuel gets in their and ignites. Try cleaning up your PTU and coilpacks connections :)

Thanks Vijay, that will be it for sure. Only 5 cylinders are running. I've had problems for the last 2 months and no matter how much money I spend no one can seem to fix my car :(

Cats work by heating up the exhaust gas before it leaves. This burns off a lot of the harmful gas, so they actually work by getting hot, they are running too hot.

what have you tried to fix it? is it always the same cylinder?

To cut a long story short, I got a 100,000km service done and the cheesecake mechanic didn't clean the injector terminals while servcing them so I had a bad contact that made one injector only fire here and there.

I went to Nissan because the other guy was screwing me around and they cleaned up the terminals and for 2 whole days my car was smooth and powerful.

I took her for a quick blast down the road to show one of my mates and suddenly one cylinder just stopped firing. So i think maybe an injector plug has come undone?

I did install an APEXi air filter the day I got it back from Nissan but it ran great after I put it on and I don't think it could cause this. So far I've spent $4000 on shitty mechanics who all say that my engine is in really good condition but they all fail to make it run nice!

an easy way to see if the injector is firing is to use a long screwdriver. Put the end on the injector and the handle to your ear, you should hear a ticking noise.

If you have unburnt fuel, wouldn't that suggest your not getting a spark. Try the connectors first and also the CAS connector :)

Yes it would but i didn't think of that because i'm a banana

Where is the injector bit that I can put a screw driver against? I don't want to get 12v through my ear from jamming it against a coil pack.

You will get a lot more than 12 volts through your ear !......more like something in the region of 20,000 volts at 6400 rpm !

Enough to send the heart into spasms or stop it all together.

I don't really like spasms, at least I assume that I wouldn't like it. So the injector is reachable without pulling stuff off?

I've had a few moments going sideways* when my heart has been in my mouth, but it's never made it into my actual ear...

* (or not touching the tarmac at all the other day, timed a yump wrong :D )

doctor doctor i've got a screwdriver welded to my ear!

I'm referring you to the psychiatric unit, I think you've got a screw loose...
