Today I have been mainly bypassing my PRVR... and then spotted the fuel leak at last when I idled it to test. Two more problems fixed.

 

It's like a different car... again... can this thing just keep getting more and more responsive for ever?

 

Nearly put the bonnet through the windscreen though, and invented a new sport of bonnet-surfing. :rolleyes:

 

Went out for a proper test, took it up the hill climb on the A58 between Rochdale and Ripponden, but by god it was WINDY. Managed to stand upright long enough to get some pics, but look at the state of the reservoir!

We should have a meet in the pub that's down the hill a bit from there... although I've already had a mini-meet, I've seen two other Zs today. (see Was it you?)

er, whats the PRVR? and what does by-passing it do ?

PVPR is pressure regulator vacuum relief system.

It's designed to boost fuel pressure for starting or if fuel temp > a certain value.

It works by switching the FPR's vacuum signal between manifold and a surge tank that is held at max boost pressure.

Removing it saves some weight if you remove the solenoid and tank, and also simplifies the vacuum piping a bit. Also, it's less parts to go wrong / split on this crucial line.

Removing it has the possible downside that the car may be harder to start, and you loose the (very little) protection it gives for the very unlikely hot fuel condition.

I've had it off mine for ages and had no hassle what so ever starting it.

Yeah, what John said, plus in my case it's smoothed things out a bit. I think I might have a dicky FPR to be honest...
