Hi all, in need of your opinions on this.

My zed is currently in the bodyshop being fitted with some sideskirts.

The sprayer called me up today to ask if I wanted the skirts sprayed in the textured anti-stonechip paint to match the lower parts of the front and rear bumpers or use the normal smooth stuff.

He also said that if I did go for a smooth finish then the car would not look right unless he removed the bumpy paint from the bumpers aswell to match the skirts. This of course is all gonna be more money.

The guys in the bodyshop seem to think it would be better to spray the skirts in the stonechip paint as being fibreglass it will help alot to keep them looking nice.

What are your opinions on this as I really don't have a clue?

Cheers,

Justin.

go with the stone chip look...the body shop will not be able to remove ex stone chip effect easily as it seems to be within the plastic on the bumpers!

i tried on an old bumper and it looked $hite

all the best

Dave

personally I'd go for smooth, then smooth the bottom of the door and get an aftermarket rear bumper!! But that's why I still haven't resprayed mine as it's going to cost a bit, and I keep spending money on other mods....

Thanks for the replies guys.

I would love to get a new rear/front bumper but as I said, its all money and that something I am fast running out of.

Does anyone else have sideskirts pained in the stonechip paint?

Justin, lots of cars have the lower cills treated in this way from stock, so the orange peel look will not be out of place.

IMHO of course

But then I don't really like skirts on zeds anyway, so I'd probably just take them off again!!

Cheers Nigel,

Thats the main thing I was worried about really, the skirts looking perhaps a bit strange being painted with the bumpy paint. I guess if it is commonplace amoungst car manufacturers to do this then I am sure it would look ok though.

Thanks,

Any more thoughts on this?

My mind is not 100% made up although am leaning towards anti-stonechiping the lot.

Would just like a bit more feedback to make a final decision though.

Cheers,

Justin

Personally I think it needs to be smooth, I have never seen skirts painted with the textured paint, I would have them painted smooth and maybe go back later to have the rest smoothed out, but I agree it will look odd if you look at the door and as you work your way down it will go to textured paint then go back to smooth. I think Mr Visa would have to thrown at the paint shop in my case as she has already taken a chunk out of my bank account and there is loads more I want to do, Ive just got to learn to be patient I guess.

Mine are smooth paint finish, but i have new bumpers to match.

The bottoms of the doors are still stonechip tho, and the whole thing looks perfectly ok.

I would have thought the whole skirt sprayed in stonechip was OTT to be honest.

How high up is the stonechip paint on the stock bumpers, ive never noticed. Is it level with the top of the skirts or lower i would think.

Do 'em smooth ! You can always stone chip 'em later.

That true, if you do them smooth and regret it then its a lot cheaper to have them stonechipped as u can go over the top of the paint, but if its stonechipped and u want to go back to smooth .. MEGABUCKS.

OK,

Smooth it is. :hyper:

Hope I don't get bad stonechips though. I guess I could always put protective film over it.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
