So after stripping off various bits i found oil in the passenger IC to turbo hose and the inlet mani, vust everything else seemed clear.

No oil on boost, but only on decel.

I assumed it was the tubby, but as no oil on boost I guess the oil must be drawing from somewhere else when the TB's are closed and the car is on run down.

The only thing I can assume is that the car is drawing oil from stem seals on run down as it tries to draw air from somewhere and they are week letting oil through, hence the blueish smoke and burnt oil smell.

Gonne strip it and replace these after a few test have been run on engine.

Any ideas as to any other possibilities.

Thx

ps

any idea on where to get a good head set from (head gasket, seals etc) and what orice,

pps excuse spelling and any other mistackes as i am a wee bit pised right now :D

130 odd quid, for 24 valve stem seals, 2 head gaskets and the plenum to lower manifold gasket! from my local nissan only orderd it monday and had it today (whensday).

If you want part numbers just let me know! :D

Hi Steve,

If you only want to change the valve oil seals its not neccessary to strip the heads from the block. With compressed air filling the opposed cylinder and using spring compressor part no. KV10111300, you should be able to remove everything (springs & things and then the old seals with a puller) and use a hammer with suitable pipe to hammer the new ones tight.

Well, if I'm wrong correct me...

Cheers

Could be a problem with the breather system - in fact more than likely. Stem seals will tend to give a puff of blue smoke on startup when the engine has been standing for a while.

rudi that sounds good mate, so its not as much of a job as I thought?

Duff, any ideas what to check mate, I don't want to keep driving her around like this as its not good, and I can't afford to fork out 500.00 for nissan just to diagnose the problem (so they have told me) and another rip off few k to fix it!

I need to get it fixed / diagnosed quick but not sure where to turn.

If I can diagnose the prob for sure, I can then get the bits in and look at getting it done, but until I can find the prob I've got no chance :(

thanks

Hi Steve,

Maybe your local Nissan dealer would borrow or rent the spring compressor to you. But it would be a bit harder to find an air compressor, which you won't need when the heads are off.

I don't know if you've done any modification to your oil system, but at the Dutch sx forum, one guy had his oil catch can fitted badly and it was consuming oil thanks to that, in a way which appeared the same as rotten valve oil seals so check out those things first if you've done oil circulation mods.

I don't think the problem is the stem seals, stem seals hardly ever go on the engine!

But the PCV valves are a common problem and a lot cheaper than new stem seals!!

Hi Topless,

What gets broken on the pcv valve then?

How is it possible that that thing sucks oil into the manifold?

Cheerz

The pcv valve is part of the breather system, they are meant to be replaced at regular service intervals, they are a small valve that can get blocked/clogged up and will cause the car to burn oil if not replaced!
