Really?

Whereabouts?

by the roadworks between Hooton turning and Clatterbridge roundabout I think. Think they are set at 50mph due to the roadworks

sorry nelson, but these are not police money making machines, they are there for the purpose of protecting road side workers, people driving through these areas at speed deserve to be prosocuted, roadside cameras for the protection of workers are perhaps the most justifiable of the whole bunch.

Yea there live ok. I pass them every day on the way to Vauxhalls. There has not been a day where someone has not been flashed.

Only justified if there is any actual WORK going on! Usually we get 15 miles of cones, with nothing happening whatsoever!!

I agree, really gets on my tits when they reduce the speed limit but dont bother to hide the signs or cameras! So everyone slows down to 50 for no friggin reason?!!? WHY?!?!?!?!?!

Another case that speed cameras dont work. Every one says they should be put up out side schools because that is where the danger is. My grilfriend is a teacher and there are 2 speed cameras right out side the school on the main road and another set 200 yards up the road and the same in the opposite road.

Yesterday a child was run over because he ran out into the road between parked cars, about 50 yards away from a proper crossing. How did those speed, sorry Safey Cameras make the road safer in that situation?

The fact is you shouldn't need spped camera's outside a school because you know you shouldn't be speeding.

because there are extra obstructions on the road due to work, possibly JCB's driving or parked up, workers who need to enter and exit the work areas 24 huors a day.

Road works are a factor of life, generally if the cones are out work is being carried out.

and i drive the a13 which is a 3lane dual carriageway with a 30mph limit imposed by speed cameras, its annoying, but at least people arn't getting killed.

if you think a camera is unfairly placed then call the police, if you don't do anything abuot it then don't shout about it.

as x-biker says, they are active when no workers are present :slap:

in most cases, speed doesn't kill, it's stupid people or kids running out that kills !!

If people stay on the pavement (not difficult !) then not many wud get runover! :nono:

Sad about the kid, but as usual it must be the cars fault! Kids have always run out into the road, hense the old Green Cross adverts (that don't seem to appear anymore in any way shape or form!) Yeah, it can't be the fault of the parents for not teaching their darling little dim-wit, that heavy moving metal beats flesh everytime! :nono:

do they work in only 1 or 2 lanes ?

touchy !

yes but equipment is stored and also surveyers come at all hours to check out the work,

just drive at 50mph ffs, its not going to kill you.

I know someone who was nearly killed by a lorry hitting a cone because he was speeding and couldn't swerve in time..... its a bit different when it comes home like that mate.

touchy !

its not touchy, its a case of if you are going to moan about something then get off your arse and sort it out, contact the relevent authorities. or you could do what the majority of people do who moan about a situation and carry on moaning and not act to get it resolved.

I remember the local policeman coming in to school every year and teaching the green cross code. Now Primary schools are so busy trying to train kids to do well in exams so they are higher in the league table, they are not taught every day needed skills like crossing the road. However there now has to be a teacher supervising the kids on the road.

have u been on a company motivational workshop ?! :p

moaning performs an important social function of alerting other to potential problems/danger :p

no mate, its my company.

only if you moan to the right people.

So Nelson are you saying it's ok to use inappropriate speed past cones?

Yeah! Sod em! Who cares if the cones get scared!!

LOL @ this thread! FFS speed is dangerous when used inappropriately. Danger situations, in my mind, include:

30 limits (whether I think the 30 limit is justified or NOT)

40 limits

also 50 limits - there must be SOME reason for it.

Roadworks - sod whether anyones around or not, the surface may well not be suitable, there may be dangerous objects parked without protection from crash barriers etc etc etc - try hitting a jcb head on at 60mph then you might realise why these limits are there....

National speed limits is where I have my fun - the rest is simply being considerate for other road users IMO.

Stick that in yer pipe and smoke it :p :D

So you like to do 100mph+ on single lane country roads, with high hedges, blind corners, tractors, sheep and cow shit!!?!? They're 'national speed limit' ain't they? They tend to have the sign with the white circle with the black slash through it?

Ssssssshhhmokin'! :D (but I never could stand pipes.......or bongs......or chilms :D :D )

I love 50 Zones in roadworks on motorways! Get a huge a mount of traffic up yer arse by going EXACTLY 50, when it ends, into 3rd and foot to the floor. Funny they ain't there any more!

Good sport.

did you not read his entire post? or is this a blair spin doctor type curfuddle of words?

he said he only speeds where appropriate,

who gives a shit if you are endagering your own life, thats your choice, but when it comes to the possible harm of others then you have to drive cautiously.

of course if you do crash you are going to tie up fire services.....
