Hi,

Not the most technical question you will be asked,but,...... does anyone know how i can go about fitting a rear car baby seat in my Z. A front facing one. I only have lap belts in the rear of my car and as a rule you need seat belts.

I think i saw one fitted on one of the cars (red i think) at the north west meet the other sunday.

Please HELP! I don't want to have to buy an MPV! :(

Depends on the age bracket for the seat. But if it is a proper 'Baby' seat, it would be better in the front. most front facing stage two seats should be able to be used with a static lap belt. if your buying one from a shop, get then to show you all the options first.

my rear seats have normal 3point harnesess, but ive got 3car seats theway the f**king rear seats are designed is beyond me i had to buy a booster seat for my baby and i got a kid on the way so god help me!!front seat might be the only way forward, there may be a way of gettin a proper seatbelt fitted, send the car back to japan otherwise ask for a refund!!

It might have been my car with the baby seat at the NW meet (?)

It's a halfords special, cost around £60, but it needs 3 point harnesses (which I bought second hand and fitted myself (not too difficult) and you need to fill the hole of the bucket seat to 'locate' the baby seat. I put a plastic bin bag on my (new at the time) leather seats and pumped it full with expanding foam (very messy business!). This worked fairly well as the foam went up into the underside of the babyseat, so it can't slide forward - even under heavy braking.

I'm not sure about the regulations, but my wife used to work in the car safety industry, and I can't stress this point enough to anyone out there...

DO NOT RELY ON LAP BELTS ONLY FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUR CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!

Please!

I put little'uns seat in front seat, facing rearwards,

bit of a pain with the seatbelt being attached to

the door, have to get her out through the drivers

side, it'll be ok in the summer, i'll be able to lower

her in through the t-tops! ;)

Went to the local babyshop regarding a seat in the rear,

she just looked at me & said no way! :(

Nah!!!! - Don't ask the assistants, just take all the seats out to the car park and try them till one fits!

Mine works a treat and my son and heir loves it - even has it's own drinks holders for when we're cruisin!

Nigel, which make/model is it? My wife is due in August and although we have a huge Rover for most of the time, it'd be nice to know it would fit in the Zed as well.

Cheers,

Matt.

Cheers for the advice nigel, great help. Did you buy 2nd hand propper 300 rear seat belts? At the mo the little guy goes on the front seat facing backwards but i have the same prob as others, my seat belt is on the door so i have to put him in through the passenger window or across from the drivers side, pain in the butt! Also me chick's not impressed having to coil herself up to get in the back.

I have to find a solution!!!! What make seat did you buy?

I used stuffed a cushion in the bucket to pad it out a bit, then found the best seat from halfords I could that was a bucket-ish shape (bottom lower than the back) was about 90.00. Then after fitting the standard rear belt (over shoulder type) I then got a loading strap that takes the most kg's I could find with a rachet / lock on. Tightened it, one side of the strap under the back seat upright and one over. I padded out the top of the rear seat with spare leather so the tension of the webbged belt doesnt kill my seat. I then rachet / locked it to the back of the normal seat in the boot. It doesnt move at all now!

For extra saftey I just knocked up a small bracket, which bolts the seat to the frame with two bolts from the boot, still easy enough to get out if you need to.

Not ideal but is safe, looks tidy and works a treat.

Only prob I have now is that me little one is now 2 and being tall when i put her in the car then put the seat back, it goes nearly all the bloody way to the back seat and will crush her legs before I can put it forward, so I end up having to put her in from the other side with the seat forward already, pain in the bloody ass!!!

And I thought the Z was a family car lmao

Hi there,

got my Z 7 months ago(jap import) and then relised the car had lap belts. I had the same problem with the kiddies seat so i found some second hand ones out of the back of the auto trader. I think the price came £150 with p&p. All the fitting locations are there behine the panels. The only mod i had to make was drill two holes in the plastic to put the top buckles in. Easy!!

Nice one,

Cheers for that, i'll get straight on to andyz and find out much a set of rear belts are gonna cost me.

Good work!!!

Andy found me a pair for a lot less than £150, but they weren't a matching pair.

Meanwhile - take note of Stevo's warning and put baby in the rear passenger side! This way the passenger is the one with the compromised leg room, not the driver!

When there's all three of us in mine, the wifey has to get in first and set her seat, then the little-un can climb in from the drivers side, no probs.

Of course, I have been reminded that this only works with front facing seats and kids older than 9 months.

and Andy,

I have transported fully grown adults in the back of my 2+2 - once. Lets face it, these seats are for kids only mate!
