Easy one for you........

I'm going to look at a twin turbo this evening.

1.What should the oil pressure read cold

2.What should the turbo gauge read cold

1.What should the oil pressure read when temp is 1/2 way

2.What should the turbo gauge read when temo is 1/2 way

Anything else i should look out for or ask?

Cheers ta!

my oil pressure goes to about 3/4's on the gauge, then comes down to about 1/4, but sometimes it reads 0 even when cold or hot or thrashing it they can be very inacurate

boost not affected by temp as far as i know, shoould go to about 9 psi under full boost, may 7 from cold on a uk as they have a limiter, about -9 on tickover i think.

check condtion of connectors, rad hoses, fuel leaks, power stearing leaks, check all electrics work, propshaft vibration, tyres wearing unevenly, check aux fan comes on when air is turned on and off, if its an auto check gearchanges are smooth, they should hardly be felt if its ok, 1st to 2nd can be quite harsh when cold tho, check oil condition water levels, rear sills if its a uk car can be prone to corrosion, make sure all panel gaps are even and level.

read the FAQ on the links page for more specific info

Actually, it is. The BSCV's are not enabled until the water temp reaches 60 deg C. Until that point it's effectively in 'safety boost'. Of course this doesn't matter because nobody thrashes their car until it's warmed up, right ?

Vacuum when cold at idle will also be higher (greater -ve pressure) than normal - the revs are higher as the engine warms up ;)

i knew that maybe didnt word it right, JDM cars dont have this safety feature tho do they?

Don't forget the turbo seal test. Just leave it ticking over for 5-10 minutes. If they object with no good reason, rev to 2k for 20seconds. If nothing comes out of the back, it should be ok. Also check that the steering wheel is central and check the allignment of the doors to the rear. When sitting in the car and looking through the passenger side mirror, the line should be perfectly straight. Best checking the drivers side from outside.

And the obvious one, make sure you get to start it from cold.

Good luck.
