Ok heres one garunteed to get the comments flying...

Why should I keep my 300ZX over a Mitsubishi GTO TwinTurbo? (some CONSTRUCTIVE comments would be useful as well as the usual patriotic slanging for laughs !!)

Cheers guys & in the words of ref Mills Lane... LETS GET IT ON!!!

I am looking to buy a 300zx tt, as soon as I sell my GTO. Nothing wrong with the GTO, I just fancy a change. I reckon the 300zx will get just as much attention as the GTO has received. Thats why I spend so much time on this forum, looking for yhe common problems.

GTO plus points

*you can get to the turbos out without lifting the engine.

GTO bad points

*the interior came from a kinder egg

*so did the exterior

*the handle like the titanic balanced on a three wheeled rollerskate

*allegedly some of them smell of wee

*they are the only "performance car" in the world ever to weigh more than a zed.

I have heard that the gearbox's, both man and auto are weak, and there are often broken GTO's for sale. Dont know for sure.

More stuff to go wrong. For starters you have 3 diffs. More electronics than Stephen Hawkins chair to go wrong.

But the main thing is no T-Tops :D

The auto was only available as a non turbo. The auto gearbox only goes if you fail to fit a better oil cooler (same as the auto tt 300zx). As for the manual, the output shaft goes if you keep launching it off the line, I imagine any tt 280 bhp car would suffer the same.

I've never read anywhere that the Mitzis are any good as a drivers car. Words like unemotional and robotic spring to memory. Performance Car magazine wouldn't even list it because they thought so poorly of it.

Zeds better Zeds best.

Drive them both, make your own mind up!

  That made me laugh

Nice one boys... 9 replies in as many minutes.. good start.

I have to say Ive owned both and the GTO does come in for a slating where it doesnt really deserve it.

TOTALLY agree with the diff comment.. the 4wd is known to be a regular go-er but once its done its done. (expensive though). I actually thought that with the in-car adjustable suspension and a set of springs the GTO handles BETTER than my ZX. Its also a plus with the manual being more available than the ZX's although for an auto box the ZX's is CRACKING!

My one on its way over from Japan has the glass top which is good but I reckon you cant beat the ZX t-top... Im a doorman always worried bout vengence attacks etc and people LOVE slashing vynl roofs but the T-top gives the more solid look and begs better fitment than usual convertibles.

I agree, the gto often gets a slagging about handling. I have never thought it was bad. The back slides out every so often, but nothing too alarming. And in the wet, unless you are in a skyline gtr, forget about going up against a gto. Grip level is awesome in wet.

Come on lads keep em coming!! I love my ZX or I wouldnt have bought it. I think I prefer the look of the ZX.

Driving the GTO is very hard on your guts.... that is to say it takes the guts to throw what feels like such a heavy car into corners etc at such speeds. Once past this mental block the car will actually handle it.

In a straight line pulling, Ive not lost a road challenge with more expensive motors yet in my ZED. Its funny watching the boy-racers looking edgy with their passenger mates because they all know these Nissans are worthy to be wary of!!

Before I bought my zed I was thinking about getting a GTO, but I heard a lot of bad reports about the common failure of the 4 wheel drive boxes, and the £2000 to fix. I do give the GTO 10/10 on exterior styling though.

Except for the truly revolting Orange, sorry 'Red' that it comes in :D

Like I say before, it is true about the 4wd transfer box and you are looking at around £1500 for a repair. About the same as a Turbo job on a ZX I believe?

That kinda cost on ANY car scares the sh*t outa me! Other pros 'n cons??

Mike,

But a red GTO is the one I like the most.........they somehow look more stunning than the darker coloured ones.

John

Yeah red is ok but I know what he's on about... many of them are seriously oxidised when they get over here and the red looks a shitey kind of weak orange. Jap "waterbased" paints just aint up to our standards ha ha.

My one is that pearl burgundy metalic or 'wine red' as they call it.

You gotta be kidding right, that Orange GTO colour is awful, just like the metallic brown 300!

The ones I have seen are a bright red.......very similar to zed red..........maybe they have been resprayed.......but I have never seen an orange GTO

John

I thought they were salmon pink...

ok ok what about performance and tuning etc. How do they compare with one another with how easy it is to tap more power and eventual performance figures.

If a £1500 repair bill scares you, get an RS Turbo.......

Been there done that, you have to realise what ur getting yourself in for! And owning a Zed, you should????? So why u so scared? ?

 because its a figure of speech. ANYONE thinks a one and a half grand bill is big ... unless ya loaded!

And Ive been lucky my Zed has been faultless throughout my ownership. Id rather spend my money on mods than repairs as Im sure anyone would.

And you can shove ya RS turbo up ya aRSe!! ha ha Id NEVER own a ford. 21 cars later and IVE STILL never sucumbed to a blue badged horror!!
