Ive got Bridgestones on the back, they stick like glue to the road,(or did!)

but recently have been twitching / sliding a bit in 1st / 2nd gear

full power ( on dry roads). I dont trust them enough to power thru roundabouts anymore. Its deffo the tyres and not suspension related.

They're 9mnths old and done about 10k, and have about 3mm even tread

left all over.

Question is, does the rubber compound get harder as the tyre wears, giving less grip? I would have thought not. The less tread the more grip on a dry road isnt it? a bit like F1 racing slick tyres.

Any of u guys found the same?

Was gonna let them wear to the legal limit but think i'll change 'em next weekend now.

cheers

I think bridgestones have a dual compound that get harder (so2 did anyways).

If you are not happy with the tyres, and can afford it, change them, rather than have no confidence in the car. With all the salt and shit over winter, and now some reasonably warm weather, could just be the rubber going off.

slicks definately do not work like worn road tyres.

Depends on what tyre you have. Some tyes do get harder as the tread gets lower, as it is more important to have the tread.

Bridgestone S02 which I has dont get harder. The result was they only lasted 8000 miles. :(

Balls to that, they (so2) have a different compound as a base layer, which they claim was more grippy, just to fook yr tyres quicker i guess ;)

But so anyway, tyres must have gone off or something.

I know my old ones didnt grip too well, but then again they were khumo or yangbang or something, and they were bald as a baby's b0llock, feels like a different car now with a new set of decent tyres on it, i can even go round corners in the wet now!!!

Normal tyres are not the same as F1 ones.

Once the tread has gone on a road tyre thre is very little rubber left until you reach the wire beading.

F1 tyre, once the tread has gone, there is plenty of rubber left on it.

I have been usung Dunlop SP Sport 8000 last 3 weeks, when i took off my Toyos i could not believe how soft they were,if you stood tyre up and pressed on tread the whole tyre collapsed nearly, but the Dunlops were well firm, the ride from the Dunlops is harder i can tell, but less road noise, and so far great grip, they were part worns 275x35 with about 6mm tread left :)

Some tyres will inevitably lose grip significantly as they wear, especially in the wet - there is less tread-gap to chanel the water properly.

I've not had the ZX long enough to wear a set of tyres yet but I got through several in the Supra. It came with Bridgestones and they too lost grip at the rear well before the legal limit. I also had a set of BF Goodrich profiler Gs, they were excellent and I had no idea when they had worn to illegal levels because grip was still sooooo good. They didn't last long, though so I never used them again and stuck to Michelin Pilot Sport on the Supra after that. They were as good as BFGs but lasted way longer....

I now have Goodyear GDS3 F1s on the ZX, so far so good.............

Cheers guys,

yeah they are SO2's, used to swear by them - my opinion of them has now changed!

I mean whats the point in a tyre giving great grip when its new and crap when its 3/4 worn?! Fook 'em.

Ive got Goodyear Eagle F1's on the front , gonna get same for back now.

Have any of you worn a set of these low yet?

Rich - do u think theyre as good as the michelin pilot sport?

Worn tyres = less traction.

Geoff.

Hi Trev,

My goodyears are still new, so I don't know what they will be like once they've worn down to 2-3mm. But so far I'd say they were better than the Michelins for all-round grip in wet or dry.

They are also a few quid cheaper ;)
