Flippin eck what a morning.

Went to a tyre place in Benfleet to get a new set on the front. My mate and I wotched serveral guys run round the car doing the tyre stuff, that they do.

Then ... with the wheels back on the car, one of them lets the car down, kerrunch!!! Someone had move the blocks from under the tyres and the car bottoms out on the jack, crunching my sideskirt. The mechanic who looks like a div anyway, throws his gloves down and walks off in a huff.

My mate and I run over to the car, and I (in one of those Ripley's Believe it or not stories) lift the zed up with my bare hands and my mate pulls the jack out.

I was lost for words, fortunatly the sound was worse than what the damage was, so I calmd down and left.

Then .... I get to the end of the road, put my brakes on, and I hear a bang, bang, from the front. We get out to find the alloy catching on the caliper!!!

I go back to the place, and work out that they put the wheels back on the car on different sides to what they were before. And if anyone has seen my alloys, they have Pete's dodgy, grind it out to fit the over the caliper mod, instead of using spacers. Anyhew as they were on the back foot about the side skirt, they put some 3mm spacers on the front to sort out the spacing.

Just showed Pete @ Se/Nisstek and he's ok'd the car fortunatly. But I missed my MOT time cos of all this hassle. Pete's been kind engough to re-book for Tuesday (phew)!!

I am now having another cup of tea me thinks. :duffer:

sorry to hear it dave, should have given me shout could have gone for a fry up

Sorry to hear this mate, are you saying Pete at SE ground out the inside of your alloy wheel to make it fit?

You should have cuffed the moron!!!

I've got to the stage now havining had such bad experiences with tyre places over the years that I now remove my own wheels, take off any existing balance weights clean the wheels thourily and deliver them myself to the tyre place to avoid the morons damaging my car. The manager also gets threatened with pain of paying for refurbishment if they mark or damage the wheels in any way BEFORE they are allowed to change the tyres. The result of this is quite often the guy in charge personally does the job!! so they can't have much faith in the staff!!!

I'm sure they all think I'm a complete ****er, but I don't have a chassis full of dents and missing chunks of underseal/paint!!! like most people must!!

I have loads of little scrattiched in a ripple effct where the metal clip from the air gun was touching the car when it was screwed on. I only noticed it when I got home.

Yea, although that was done a couple of years ago when he first lent me the alloys. Wished Pete had sourced some 3mm spacers, it would have been easier.

Russ: Sorry mate forgot, I was there long enough, we could have gone for a burger.

Mike: It was Jet in Manor Trading estate. Can't find the receipt now, so not sure if it's the same place. Apparantly some other zeds go to this place as well.

Paul: I did wanna knock the bloke out, but I'me far too easy going, so I gave him one of my scary Eddie stares, which is why he walked off I guess. A senior mechanic dealt with the car, he's really pissed off with the other guy. Dunno if there will be any disciplininary from it. I am lucky that there was only a slight crack underneath, and nothing showing from the outer edge so I think I have got away with it.

Think my mate felt worse as he recommended them. But his mate who got me the tyres was off that week, so it was just the other munkees left to do my car :smw:

Thanks all for your comments, I feel a bit better now.

On the lighter side of things, I out fuzzed a new Civic Type R on the twisties coming back to Maldon  And a new Celica that was begging for it in Wickford

That'd be me then ....
