OK, I have recently fitted a new front bumper to my car (1990 TT UK Spec) and have no side lights ? I thought that the smoked rectangular lights were Indicators and side lights incorporated with each other, It turns out that they are only indicators. I spoke to Luke today (Z Centre) and he seems to think that they incorporated both on vehicles from mid-1992 onwards ?

I had a problem with my tail lights not working and checked the footwell fuse box and the 3rd fuse from top left was blown after replacing it with a 7.5w insted of 10w (All I had) that blew I then replaced with a 20w (All I had) and getting them working I noticed that I had no side lights, I now have a 10w in place and I need to get them working by next Wednesday for my MOT. Luke also mentioned that he thought UK cars had side lights incorporated with your low beam light i.e they come on dimmer that normal low beam (Can anyone else confirm this) as I cannot remember where my side lights were originally after not driving my car for 5 months whilst in the body shop ??

Anyhow after messing around with my bulbs etc in the cold and rain I have now managed to bugger everything up altogether and after installing 100w bulbs in both low beam lights (I know they get hot and melt rubber etc)the car now permanently (When you switch lights on) stays on high beam on the driver side. So basically I have no side lights and now no low beam etc etc HELP ME I'M TEARING MY HAIR OUT !!!!   :(

From what you have discribed, I would initially say that you have blown the fuses that are in the engine bay for the h/lights. It's happened to me in the past whilst changing bulbs. Also make sure that the bulb goes in square otherwise you will get beam mis-alignment.

I have had my fair share of headlight troubles. The Z headlights are not actually that badly designed, it's where they have been located that is the problem.

As for heat problems, I think most of us suffer with the same issue and bulbs don't tend to last that long because of it. What I have done with my dipped beam cabling and housing, is to remove the rubber cover completely so that the light can breathe.

ok, lets start from basics, wot bumper have you got, and what was on there before (including lights etc)

Got any pics of it?

There was a Scarab bumper on before now there is a Shark Front Bumper (Z Centre) Don't know how to post up piccies do you know (Daves new ZX) ?

I tried the small fuses under the bonnet in the main fusebox they were OK. How do I know if the larger ones are OK ?? Do I need to go to a Nissan Dealership to get replacements for these ?? The ones marked H/LAMP RH + LH are these relays or another type of larger fuse ??

This is getting complicated - ok lets start from the beginning.

UK Spec

Headlights light up dimly when put on the sidelight setting.

Sidelights should also light up as part of the indicator.

Corner lenses are only dummies.

Jap Spec

Headlights do not light up dimly on sidelight setting AFAIK.

Foglights are where the uk indicators are.

Indicators are in the corner lenses.

If you have no sidelights, and your car is a uk spec, I would say that the cables are probably just dangling or the bulbs have blown. If your headlights are playing up, I would make sure that the bulbs are wired up well and the bulb is sitting square in the locator because that can make a difference.

As far as fuses go, if you haven't already done it, use a test light and make sure that they are ok.

Let us know what your findings are.

Don't know how to post up piccies do you know (Daves new ZX) ?

1) Right, go into the reply box,

2) Type in your text (if you want any)

3) Scroll down to the grey box that says 'Manage Attachments' and press this button.

4) A new window will open, within this window there will be five buttons marked 'Browse'.

5) Pressing these buttons opens up to your pc files, you can now search for you required picture/s.

6) Once you have double clicked on your pic, the file path will appear in the white box next to the 'Browse' button.

7) When you have finished putting the required number of pics in the boxes (one per box), press the 'Upload' box, wait a short while (This is dependent on your connection speed).

8) Job done, just press the 'Submit' box.

I hope that helps.

On the technical side, I wont confuse the issue by asking anymore questions, I'll let cos help you out with this one. Better that way rather than telling you different things.

.......

Jap Spec

Headlights do not light up dimly on sidelight setting AFAIK. - Mine is Jap-Spec and has no dim operation on this part.

Foglights are where the uk indicators are. - With sidelights in them

Indicators are in the corner lenses. - Unless you have, or have put in, US-Spec items, then these have the sidelight in this corner unit.

......

Hope you dont mind me putting those bits in cos, just thought it might help a little bit. :slap:

Dave

Just found this. It's the US way of doing the Indicator and sidelight together. Just thought it might be an option, if thats what you need.
