IT......I am thinking of getting some but how many of you are running them and any regretts!!!!!!

cheers

Dave

ps what have you got

If u want perforamnce just dont put any at all or put a pair and the relocate the air back in.

i'm no expert but the standard recircs hold the built-up boost for you, while the dumps (although sounding rather good) lose it into the atmosphere. if you want the pshht get dumps then upgrade your engine. i would :)

Lets be honest - we all put bov's on for the sound! I have a pair of HKS on mine with no regrets!

VROOOOOOOM - TISHHHHH !! Scare's grannies and small children a treat.

From what I know the air/fuel is then unmetered for a very short time too so it runs rich for a fraction of a second which can give you flames from the exhaust :)

I think ??

Is that why I keep backfiring when I change gear at high revs?

think so

Mine stared doing it when I fitted BOVs

Mate in a G40 behind me said he saw flame :)

I have had flames out the back of my exhaust and I dont have BOVs.

I know if you run rich i.e. aftermarket chip you may get this - I just thought BOVs highlighted it.

Well I'm not complaining. After I increased the boost the old recircs leaked loads, leading to huge power loss at high revs.

Everyone goes on about how much better recircs are, but aren't they just recirculating warm air into the turbo system? Surely it's better to get fresh cold air? Just a thought...

Its getting air which would have gone into the engine anyway so I dont think it would be any hotter than whats already coming from the turbos.

I have never heard of the Re-circs leaking but it is possilbe. I have heard 2 or 3 people on here who's car was running terrible and ended up being BOVs not fitted correctly or leaking.

I dont know why BOVs would make your car flame more. Could any one explain that for me?

All I know is that after I increased the boost, when I booted it, it felt like the car was running 'on boost alone'..ie, it accellerated slowly, then shot forwards when the boost came it, and then died when the engine reached 5500rpm...I replaced the valves and it was strong all the way to the redline...but then it was pushing 1.5bar...

Someone else may be better at explaining but when recircs push air back in its already been metered. Now with BOVs it runs richer for a fraction of a second as its not metered hence bigger bang

I think :)

Like I Said - someone will be able to explain better

mmm, don't think they're gonna add anything to performance - all it does is make your car sound like a teenage go-faster, riced-up bling bling fast and furious extra!

all the kids round here have BOVs on their scoobydoos!

I prefer the mature burble of overrun myself!

The main reason for fitting BOVs is becauase the recircs get fooked causing goose honk. Recircs are twice the price of BOVS.

TBH I don't think you will see any performance gain or loss when fitting these.

I have HKS SQL's and the sounds is great :D

I've never looked back.

No I wouldn't look back if I were you , you'll see every one doing this behind you!!!

:xxx:

So what is the difference in recircs and BOV,s!! is one more benificial than the other in performance

No speaker brackets for you then :xxx:

Recircs ARE BOVs in a way, they just dump into another pipe which shoves the pressurised air back in once you're on the throttle again - kind of like drinking your own puke! (bloik). I think recircs are a tiny tiny bit better for accelleration, but the sound of 'normal' dumps defiantely makes them worth it.

No speaker brackets for you then :xxx:

ah Stu, don't be so soft!

You know I'm only teasing! - bit like you with mi speakers!

:slap:

LOL, I know you're joking mate, you gotta be caus eI know how badly you want those brackets lol.

Well good news mate, get my car back on Saturday so in the next few weeks I should be able to sort something out for you :D.

Sorry for going off the subject Dave.

BOVS there are great mate you'll love em ;)

I'm surprised Duffer hasn't leapt in here with his usual "never seen so much testicles in my life..." He undoubtedly will after my post. :D

Anyway. Consider full throttle. The engine will have a look at how much air is coming in and wang in as much fuel as it thinks it can get away with.

Now consider coming off full throttle. Suddenly, no fuel, but the air for the next stroke* has already been compressed. If you wanged all that air in the cylinder at high revs with not much fuel you'll get det. So you've got to do something with all that air - it can't go in the cylinder.

You can either keep it until you need it, thereby saving the turbo some work the next time you ask for boosted air, thereby reducing lag - sounds good to me. This is what recircs do.

Or you can dump it to atmosphere making the turbos / charge circuit start all over again next time you want boost. Makes a nice noise though. This is what BOVs do.

The engine works out how much fuel to inject based on the amount of air it thinks it has. This is measured "before" where you put dump valves - so whilst the dump valves are open the engine thinks loads of charged air is getting to the cylinders but it ain't, it's going "per-choo" in the direction of the nearest granny. That's why it might run rich whilst they're open. In practice it shouldn't, because the valves won't open until you're off the throttle, ie you've asked the engine NOT to fuel.

This all happens pretty quickly given that you're on >6000rpm, or about 100 revs a second, when you back off...

Those TurboXS look cheap though, if you DO want BOVs.

This will only affect performance either way in a manwell.

* Or 5 strokes, or whatever, I dunno how much air sits in the charged circuit when you're on boost. I can't imagine it's the full 3 litres though. I think the tubbies are cross-mounted for maximum circuit length, but even so...
