My rear brake lines that run up and over the rear axle (tranfer box) need replacing before next MOT, I have been quoted £500 due to the subframes need dropping and removal of transfer box. Is this right? or anyone know a better (cheaper) way, your help will be much appreciated.

Yeah is a nightmare by all accounts. I've been quoted £600!!! :( I have heard a rumour that it would be better to re-route them through the boot area also thus insulating them from all the c**p on the roads. JeffTT Was thinking about re-routing them but not sure what the outcome was.

 

Has anyone else had this job done??

Where is the rot about?

 

A couple of years ago I saw that a whole rack of pipes heading up and over the diff on my UK 92 had a bit of surface rust on them and I splathered them in waxoyl. I would have thought that there would be a way to replace them with a bit of creative thought instead of dropping the rear subframe. My MOT is a couple of months away.

You could maybe try some flexible braided hose - I'm sure this has been mentioned before as it was V expensive.

Hhhmmmm braided hose..... now theres an idea. Might try to get some cheap. The ones that are gone on mine are the ones near the top of the diff.
