Steering Rack Problems

Hi

Just had MOT done and its failes on excessive play on the rod that goes from the track rod end into the steering rack, N/S more excessive than O/S.

Could anyone tell me how this can be corected as i have been told that they can be compressed back into the rack by machine, if not does anyone else have any advice on what i can do.

Also does anyone have any instructions on the removal and refitting of the steering rack if possible, i have done a search but to no avail

Many Thanks

Dunk,

Not an uncommon problem, fortunately they are similiar in design to the hicas arms and are available separately, they can be easily changed on the car, will need a tracking check after though. Usually have a couple on the shelf in the workshop.
