Try driving an auto FFS - you'll never want a manwell again in most cases - ppl in this country are so narrow minded - Christ, even the yanks are ahead of us on this 1 !! Manwells suit track cars/kit cars IMHO. The 300ZXTT suits an autobox, being a large GTO. Unless you are drag racing or going for a top speed record, buy an auto - so much easier, and faster to 100MPH.

 

Is changing gears fun FFS :rolleyes: - if it is, u r seriously sad :tongue: :rofl: How many are going to mod to a BHP which the autobox can't cope with - not many I reckon - it costs too much.

 

So, get a life and buy MY auto :nono:

Exactly - how many ppl in manwells drive in the best gear (better than an auto) for how much of the time - not many I bet !! Most ppl wud drive more efficiently in an auto (faster/better changes, right gear more of the time).

 

Concentrate more on the fit women on the pavement looking at you in your car !!

I bought an auto because my Zed is my weekend fun car and have always felt that the Zed it is a sporty car that Manual was the right way to go.

 

After all, how many auto boxes (not including tiptronic type) have seen in Ferrari's or Lambo's?

 

I have to admit I have never been in nor driven an auto Zed and I am sure they drive beautifully. If it was my everydayy car I would probably given more thought to an auto. Especially taking into account they are cheaper to buy in general.

I drove an auto and I didnt really like it.

 

It was OK but there where many things which I missed from having a manual.

I like changing gears when I want to. I like the keep in in 2nd when having a play around and keeping it in high revs. The only way of doing that in an Auto is to press the hold button, and even then if I lightly accelerate to 5000rpm or so, it will change gear anyway. When I have finished press the hold button again. That doesnt seem very automatic. The only other option is to put it into 2nd which again, defies the whole reason for an automatic.

 

Pulling out on the motorway. An auto has the kick down, rises the revs and the pulls off. On a manual I can keep the car in 4th or 3rd when I see a gap coming up, foot down and I have instant power. No delay.

 

But its completely down to personal preferance.

 

Besides my left leg got bored when I drove an auto.

I have driven autos for years now and I can tell you they are truly crap. It seems that a lot of z owners want to convert from auto to manual, a very good decision.

The yanks have autos because they are big and fat, and can't be bothered to change gear like the rest of the world. God I hate autos.

Auto's suck :D Even a boost spike at 9psi kills them ffs :D Yes I've driven LOTS and yes I absolutely hate them :p:D Personal preference I know but I'm more than happy with my choice :) I just don't like the way the drivetrain feels 'indirect'. My mrs drives a tiptronic fto and thats just as bad - damn fine box by all accounts but its still auto. LOL even she's said she gets bored when she's driving :D

While they may have a more advanced 'box than the ZX it doesn't mean it works better than the ZX set-up.

 

I generally didn't like autos having driven a few Scorpios, Cavaliers and Vectras. But when I bought my first Supra turbo, which was auto I changed my mind. It seems if you have an auto with a big powerful engine (ZX, Jag and BM/Merc over 3000cc) you don't lose performance. Most Porsche 928s are auto and with 5400cc engines they are certainly as good to drive as manwells :tongue:

 

If you put an auto box with a small engine (ie Focus and most other normal cars) it will be cr@p because there isn't enough power to make the car go quickly.

Come on Homebrew - a Ford Focus FFS you may as well compare a DAF variomatic, yes the box maybe more advanced but the engine has hardly got the power to pull the skin off rice pudding. At least drive a decent powerful auto before your decide that they are all crap.

 

As for more cars being converted to manual over auto, don't forget it's a cheaper replacement cost rather than a desire to throw out autos.

its in a performance car, and a 130hp focus deffo aint that

the box in a focus is to grabby when looking for power, and can't see how you can compare any part of a focus to a zx?

If I would have found a great auto when I was looking for my manual, I would have bought it, then argued the t*ss that is was superior ever since!

Auto's are alot more popular with the Japanese home market. I guess it is mostly down to the fact they spend most of the time sat in traffic jams.

Most UK cars were probably autos too.... The original buyers of these cars (at £36K ish) from new were most likely late 30s/early 40s company director types. Being a GT rather than sports car (like 928) would also have a lot to do with it.....

it says that if you want an auto then it was a COST OPTION

I've got a copy of a 1993 What car which quotes a UK TT Auto as 0-60 in 7 seconds!

 

Dead chuffed when I bought my S13 that I was as fast as a Zed.
