after some of the recent HICAS removal threads I am wondering if im the only person who doesnt find it a problem!!

I like the way the car handles, maybe a little overweight, but no probs with the 4WS. its a UK car with stock suspension & 17" alloys.

who else likes/dislikes the 4WS on our cars.

is it just a import thing with speedo convertor problems or what??

Just as a matter of interest what is the difference between hydraulic hicas and electronic.............apart from the obvious, i mean handling wise, my 95 jap tt is a twitchy fooker at the best of times and will step out a the drop of a fart !!

I had HICAS on for a while until Baggins disabled it for me (using the shoting out trick). The car is much more predictable in a slide now, IMHO, and I like the fact that I haven't got a system in between me and the steering. At least if I cock up I know it's my fault alone. Just don't like the idea of something electro/mechanical trying to make decisions for me in a tricky situation.

It always been hydraulic, the only difference from what i've read is some of the grey imports started to use Electronic control to tell the HICAS system what to do... Know as HICAS 2, Grey imports have different setting for the HICAS rear suspension and they also lack the two-position dampers of the UK cars... You can stiffen the suspension by pulling up the handbreak one click on a UK TT... The US apperently we're lucky enough to have a soft and hard switch!!!

Mine is there..................

Cant really vote on the poll coz there aint one that i wud choose!!! I agree with what a few of the guys have said in that the back end feels flightly/light - but i have never driving a Z with the HICAS disabled so i cant comment on how much of a difference it makes to the feel of the car

Mine is there..................

Yeah buddy but yours is 1990 and mine is 1995 and i dont know the setup of mine all i know is its electronic as opposed to hydraulic

>Alert attempted thread hijack

I was wondering if you can buy a lateral G force indicator. Years ago on top gear a Mitsibishi Gallant sporty estate had something similar with a corrective handling response thingy.

Perhaps it would be handy to know what G parts of the car are pulling with the G acceleration delta. Or maybe im being a big geek as usual :)

I think that's very sensible and not geeky!!! If such a third party device exists then it would be interesting to see what G data the Z32 actually generates. Would love something like the R34GTR skylines have got! :D

Perhaps you could make an analogue one with a protractor and some fishing weights.

I'll knock one up for £15 if anyone's interested.

OIC. ok soz mate. do you want a swap then?

My HICAS don't work and the back end floats all over the place even tho it's been lowered and uprated. I don't know if the back-up system is the same, but i did a lot of playing with the 4WS system on my old Honda Prelude. When the 4WS failed, it went into a kind of get-you-home mode that relied on secondary dampers to keep the rear wheels in a "reasonably" strait line. This made the car handle like utter shite! Tramlineing and pulling all over on uneaven surfaces to the extent of being bloody dangerous!! Don't know if HICAS has a similar design but it certainly feels the same to me, which is why I think disabling it should only by done with a by-pass lock bar. Please correct me if i'm wrong!!??

My import is fine, but I got the speedo situation sorted properly.

Andy, what do you mean by having the speedo sorted properly. Mines a Jap import with a converter from Luke. Is this the right way. If its not how does it effect the HICAS as im suffering from speedo on, speedo off syndrome at the moment  ;)

Ive never experianced the HICAS in effect yet. So not sure myself.
