Its not vital but advantagous.

Get it if you can but dont drive 30 miles for it. Try using BP Ultimate.

SRRAE, can you use normal unleaded or does it run phoo?

[sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

From what I've heard the BP Ultimate is just super unleaded rebadged!!

Optimax has a higher RON value than BP Ultimate, hence better fuel.

Good job there are 2 garages both less than 1 mile from my house in either direction!! :D

Matty.

UK ones are meant to run on Unleaded.

Jap imports are OK too. Its only when you modify the engine the need for super unleaded important

When my local shell has run out of Optimax I just put the 'other' unleaded in and it's okay on that too but I prefer the Optimax as it feels more responsive and I seem to get more MPG...

Or is that just me trying to justify the extra Optimax pennies??

Matty.

I have the same problem, No Shell garges. But have BP places.

Shell Optimax is 98RON and BP Ultimate is 97RON.

Shell is the better.

you could always use unleaded(95 octane) and put some octane booster addetive in(£3.99 a bottle) this will boost the octane rating up to 98. or for real fun use super unleaded(97 octane) and octane booster which will give you 100 octane!!!!! :hyper: trust me its worth doing every now and again :xxx:

..

Does any of this really apply to UK cars?

Does it make much difference for UK Specs?

I found there was a difference when I used Optimax. The car was more responsive, smoother and did slighly more to the gallon.

If you are going to use it, fill the tank up with it when you are nearly on empty, this way you wont get a mixed batch of normal and optimax where you really wont feel the difference.

anyone used 98ron optimax AND octane booster to 101? :)

Yep I run mine on optimax with Millers octane booster to take the RON to 100 , normally I buy it in boxes of 24 , so works out a couple of quid a bottle , I only do this because I run a MINES ecu which is mapped for 100 RON

And a lot cheaper. I put some Ulitmate in the other day and nearly choked when I saw 85.9p Per Litre. And this wasn't on a motorway either!

How much extra per tank does this cost mate?.

The "RON" rating of a fuel has a tank life. It depletes over time. How much I'm not too sure but would like to know. I'm sure some bad fuel I've had in the past has been "old fuel". We should ask really how long ago the last delivery was before filling up.....but I would feel a bit of a d1ck tbh. And not as if Mr X the cashier will know anyway.

Valid point James

he he, but can you imagine the guys/gals face. It would be an expression of "WTF", lol.

I am gonna go ask just to see what happens... :D

Greg,

If you're in Weston there's a shell garage 8 miles away,

i use it all the time and the optimax is cheap too.

Its in Clevedon, jnct 20 turn right at r-about then left at next r-about.

nice one mate saves that 30mile hike cheerz

Mr X the cashier.

I've been to the petrol station where he works - what a coincidence! Crap selection of chocolates there though, and the porno's are facing the doorway so you dont know where to look when you walk in

And dont use pump 5, it clicks off every few seconds... ;)

Tried both BP ultimate and SHELL's optimax in both my Z (TT) and my old SUPRA (TT). Both cars ran better and were more responsive with the optimax. Not to say that the BP variant is bad, it's just not AS good as the SHELL.

I have also used NITROX every six months and this seems to work. I have also taken my fuel tank off completely, cleaned it out thoroughly and this appears to have improve the car's responsiveness. Don't ask me how or why, it just "feels" better!!!!!!!!!??

OPTIMAX to the MAX....

Apparently Optimax is guarenteed 98.5RON at the pump I think.

Due to the popularity of it and that only a few pumper per station has it, the fuel can never get that old. There are 3 Shell stations near to me and quite often one has run out.

What if you use Optimax and 3 bottles of octane booster :P anyone done that? dangerous?
