Buying?

Hi all

I,m new to this forum & to 300ZX's. I'm looking to buy one & could do with some advice.

I've seen a 93' TT manual for sale which I had a quick look at yesterday - Bodywork & Interior seem excellent but its done over 110000 miles - is this a problem & what should I look out for mechanically?

Also - what are parts prices & availability like? & how easy/difficult is the engine/car to work on?

Thanks

Neil

Hello matey,

Firstly there is a "what to look for" guide(compiled by Eric, Z guru) in the Tech Sec of the forum.

Parts availability isn't a problem, however, avoid Nissan Main dealers like the Bubonic for this car...they don't have a clue or just rip you off!

If you are up de North, then Hiteq in Wigan are your best bet for servicing or problems etc. Also the Zcentre in Nottingham run by Luke Borg, top Z man! If you are down South there is a guy called Darren, does work for Nissan but is very, very good with the Z!

But for most things Johnny at Grasshopper Pro Sport is the top banana...best deals on kit, and can always point you in the right direction etc.

Mine had 115k on Thursday and 116k on Friday. Scotland to Newcastle to Burton to Oxford back to Scotland. Never missed a beat. Never even seen another Z on this trip! Such rare cars! Or are they all at home being pampered or repaired? Get a good one and its the sensible mans Ferrari!

Might I welcome you to the forum and congratulate you on not considering a Supra (awww I am only joshing folks smile.gif )

1st and most important thing is you are in the right place, there are very few things the good folks of 300zx.co.uk cannot help with regarding Zedski's.

Secondly dont have a quick look have a longggg look bud! smile.gif, there are more things that can go wrong on the VG30DE(TT) than you can shake a very long and wobbly stick at smile.gif, then there are the other bits apart from the engine too.

I would recommend a ECU diag check (if the vendor wont let you walk off), it is a bit of a pain if you dont know what to do, but if you check twinturbo.net FAQ it shows you.. I (along with most folks here could do one in 2 mins) so I U can blag a forum member to come along then this will help.

Most of the good peeps here have been thru most of the problems you can get with 300zx so take a good luck at the car and be REALLY pessimistic when viewing, then post some questions on here and get some feedback.

The 300zxTT looks and sounds wonderful and even a VERY bad one can to the untrained eye make you fall in love...

I bought one with bodywork and exterior looking great... and you just dont want to know what problems it had frown.gif

I am in the East Midlands and if I can I will come and have a look with you, I am not the worlds best expert but if you are in my area give me a shout smile.gif

Just ask away if you have anymore questions, no one person can know everything about 300zx but between the people here on this forum they know *nearly* everything

(except Henri Le Hir, who does know everything smile.gif )

Good effort Glenski,

A guy called Darren was mentioned in one of these posts as being able to woks on Zeds in the south.... can anyone point me in the right direction ?

Thanks for all the info Glen et all, I'll have a look round the site & see if I can pick up some useful tips. I only had a quick look at the car as I'm very busy for the next 2 weeks so it would only be then that I would be able to look seriously into buying it (if its not been sold!) but 1st impressions of the car are very good!. I've had (& have) turbo'd cars in the past but never a 3litre TT! I'm a bit sceptical about what can go wrong & cost & this is what worries me most.

It seems a nice car (on sight) & looks great c/w 18in alloys! - I'll let you know how I get on if its not sold by the time I get to see it again.

Would I be better getting an older but lower mileage car or is high mileage really nothing to worry about?

Thanks

Neil
