I took my car for a regular inspections and emissions test at tunex. They say the car is running fine. I drive the car regularly and only boost about twice really hard and feel the turbos kick in but not too powerful. But I always saw that the guage was in negative 9 psi dipping to about negative 4 psi. Oil pressure usually around 30-45 psi. I figure some sort of leak.

2 Weeks later I take the car into Nissan for a full tuneup. Nissan does a compression test and says that everything is fine, but I have a possible vacuum leak and that I may have electrical problems because 1 bank of my engine isn't working properly. I take the car in the next day so they can work on it, now they tell me I have a compression leak on the driver's side bank. They give me a quote of $2900 to fix it and $9000 to replace the engine. So naturally I say I will think about it. The second I leave the dealership, I feel rumbling everytime I press on the gas. The car feels really shaky when accellerating, well I full gas it to see if the turbos kick, they no longer do. On top of that, I leave a big trail of blue smoke. There is a stench coming form the engine. This morning the car just died on me

I don't know if I should call a lawyer, or just screw it and buy a new engine. I don't know if it is their fault, I don't want to point fingers which is why I'm taking the car to another mechanic to let me know what's wrong. But the one thing I know is, the car DOES NOT DRIVE the way it used to. No boost and very shaky. The engine still has a lot of parts that are good, and should I decide to replace my engine, I'm going to need to sell them so PM me if your're interested.

Thanks for reading this far if you have,

my question to you guys is:

How much do you think a compression leak would cost to fix?

I checked ebay and various other places to buy new engines, do you have any suggestions for reliable sources to purchase a new engine?

ps I'm a poor college student, willing to spend $1500 on an engine,I need the most economical way of solving this problem, help is much appreciated. Remember there are a lot of new parts on my engine if you want to buy them. Thanks

Seems to me that the garage gave you 2 reports, use the first one to fight the garage. Or are they so incompetent that the first report was wrong?

Hi mate,

Why not go back to the Nissan garage and ask them to explain why they said compression was fine on the first day. Are they a reputable garage? I wouldnt have thought they'd try anything dodgy. Tell them that the car's alot worse since they checked it and you want to know why, they should be able to explain . Has it got a blown head gasket?

I wouldnt have thought you need a new engine, especially at $9000.!!

Good luck , let us know what u do hey,

p.s. hows the weather over there? :-)

was there any extra miles on the odometer when you got it back ?

has someone taken your pride and joy for a test dive and blown a hole in one of your pistons ?? ...seems strange that it was ok first time and not the second , get a lawyer on the case , just in case you need to take it further

good luck mate
