Ello u lot, just been out for a spin, and i'm confused... maybe the car's not really fullypushin out her potential, when should the power of the tubbies kick in, be at full swing and then tail off, as they are seeming to tail off really early with my baby, and 100 seemed a bit of a struggle!! no black smoke or anything so she's not indicating turbo trouble!

Should keep pushing most of the way up... power doesn't start falling off until around 6k and it's got plenty of go all the way to the redline.

If it's not missing, just gutless, investigate boost leaks and/or AFM. Fr'instance I pulled off one of the fat intake pipes and found a split going at least an inch into it...

Getting to 100 in 3rd shouldn't be a struggle at all. Is your engine/turbo setup stock?

When was your last oil change?

yea it's all stock mate, i think power tails off near 6k yea, i guess it's just not as quick as my rx7 so seems a bit slow, i'll have to hava proper run in her and see exactly where powers kicking in and out !

thanks mate

Hey Matt,

nothing to do with your question but, im interested in RX7's ,

used to have a turbo ll, the one before the twin turbo,

it was maybe not quite as quick to 100 as the Z ,

so does the twin turbo feel alot quicker than a stock Z to u?

and how does the handling compare? Im thinkin of gettin one,

cheers

Unless your zed is poorly you should get heafty boost effect upto 6k revs and then it drops off to redline, but you need to watch your boost gauge (and the stock ones are notoriously crap!) to see if it's going all the way up. Maybe worth buying a proper boost gauge (~£120) or even a boost controller (speak to Chris@getgreddy) if you want to be sure what your machine is doing.

Hi Matt

A stock ZXtt should be quicker to 100mph than a stock RX7 (new shape TT), but only just ;) (Autocar had the ZX only about half a second ahead over the 1/4 mile).

However the ZX, being more of a GT than an outright sports car, is set-up for more comfort so you may not always feel how quick it really is.

Richard :smw:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

yea i did think that as it's a GT and a 6 cylinder it would be smooth power, thing is.. i can never really feel how quick a car is from being the driver as u sort of prepare yourself as u put foot down so can't really feel much of a kick, rx7 i got 2 kicks in the back :)

you really think it's quicker to 100 and 1/4 ? i'll have to test it out later today.

i have a blitz dual turbo timer which show's boost, its in a stupid place so i can't see what's going on when boosting but i'll see if i can move it for a run today.

and let all u know what boost it's running

Trevz, i run a car import business... get in touch if your interested in a nice rx7.

Hi Matt

I just read the road test comparison in AutoCar mag (Supra tt v ZX, 3000GT, Pork 968, BMW M3, RX7 - all stock UK cars) I know the RX7 is smaller/lighter, but the UK version only has 230ish BHP. They had the ZX ahead of RX7 over the 1/4 mile (IIRC, only the poopra was quicker). If imports have a lot more BHP I guess the RX7 may have the edge?

Richard :)

Mine pulls like stink from about 3000rpm or so all the way up, not reached the point where it doesn't really go, and I've had 145 out of it on my private test track...

It is particularly awesome from 90moh in fourth when behind german executive car drivers who won't get out of the way :)

Just a thought - Have you tried changing both the air filters and the fuel filter - just in case they are blocked and restrictive.
