I need to replace bulbs on both sides of the car for the Main\dip .

Access is not easy and I am having big trouble getting the spring clip off .Because of the space restriction I cannot see how the clip releases . i have been trying to squeeze the two ends of the spring clip at the bottom of the rear of the light unit together but so far this has not released the bulb holder - do I need to do anything else - is it easier to take the light unit out from the front of the car ? if it is are the retaining screws underneath .

Any help appreciated as I have spend more than an hour at it so far and feel such a prat because after the various jobs I have done on the car this one seemed so simple has got me stumped

You talking about the metal clip?

Push the clip down and then it swings open.

Yes its a metal u shaped clip with two ends at the bottom about ahlf inch apart - they look as if they should be squeeether to release I did try pushing them down ie directly towards the ground and in towards the front of the car but nothing worked if I could see a drawing of the clip I could at least understand how it was meant to release and then I am sure I could get it.

If ypu shine a torch down there you should see what the score is. Just push the cliups towards the front of the car and squeeze them together and then it should come out. It may not come out first time so just persevere.

And if yours is an import, that is where the fun will start, as its not easy to get your hands on jap bulbs!!!

I know leigh used to sell them on here, is he, or anyone else still selling them, as i need some spares!!!

Well, as I've modded mine to uk spec, I have two old jap spec bulbs that I've taken out. If anyone wants them, they can have them. Obviously I give no guarantees that they'll survive long, but one does look newer than the other. Also my Z has been in the UK since 2000, so they've been in a while, unless one of the other two owners has used jap spec bulbs.

Anyway give me a shout if you do.

Dave

PS - Sorry to hijack this thread.

I think your fogs still use the j spec ones, couldnt swear to it though.

No m8, I've done the full conversion, UK spec H3 bulbs in Dipped beam and Fog lamps. The Jap spec fogs are the same as Uk ones except that they have a female bullet instead of a male spade connector, so simple mod with a crimper :D

Thanks guys for the help Ist bulb out and in so should be ok with the others.

Feel I would like to do something to reciprocate but cn't immediately offer anything on the Zx side of things.

I am in the "financial world " but for a technical reason I can't give advice however heres an opinion and its probably the opinion I would stake my life on if I had to choose one.

You shouldn't buy a house right now unless you really have to because IMHO we are heading for a bust and there could be a lot of nice people seriously financially damaged.

If you have to buy take as small a mortgage as possible..

If neither of these or you have just bought and are mortgaged up to the neck or past it consider taking some sort of protection against prices falling .

Note this is not advice only my opinion which I am passing on
