Any one want some custom pistons made by Cosworth, the same people that make the JUN ones? As i have been in contact with themand they are willing to make pistons to any specs we want, only there is a minimum order of 24 pieces.

If there is enough intrest in this and we get some specs together i can get a price for you.

here is the letter i receved from them

Hi Mathew,

We make several types of pistons for JUN although to the best of my knowledge we

have not done a Nissan 300zx before. All of these pistons are not held in stock

and are made to order. We would be more than willing to make these pistons for

you either from an existing design or to suit your specific requirements. Our

only stipulation is that we make a minimum of 24 pieces.

If you are interested in Cosworth making these pistons for you please let me

have the basic piston information and I can start to do a quotation for you.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Best regards,

Matthew Bulliman

They have yet to get me a price untill i can suply specs etc of what we want

Mat, as Jun list pistons for our car (89mm) and state made by Cosworth then really this company should have em listed for yer. What would be good is pistons to suit the block as stock (no boring out) which i think is 87mm, so in short if he can find the specs of the Jun ones for Zeds, tell him "same as that mate, but 2mm smaller," lol

Stock are 86mm,remember though Smithy anyone rebuilding an engine that is 10 years+ the bores will probably be worn. That is why SE use 87mm pistons and take out 1mm.

what size pistons are you using MAC? 88mm? or 88.5? or 89 even.

Looking at their price list 90mm pistons are going for £90(ish) each. Which is very good.

But I think we will have to wait and see how much a set will cost for out cars.

Stuart

i take it that all you cossie haters out there will be abstaining from buying these! :x:

how can you not like a cossie........if i dont get the gingers machine and i cant find a uk soup then guess what im going back to without a doubt although moondust sapph cossies are super rare these days

decent ones anyway,

how about an esort instead, although they are a little overpriced

87mm Why what size are you using?

On the limit then according to Eric.

Stuart, personally I wouldn't go with Tomei's, because they only have 89mm pistons and a bore of that size is too risky on our engines.

One of every 5 blocks once sonic tested will test negative for anything bigger than a 87.5mm piston and may crack if bored bigger.

-Eric

Ive had mine bored to 89mm and the guy who did it said it was one of the best made blocks he's ever come accross, he did test it first though!!

Mathew,read Smithy post

D'oh lol

Aren't these the ones that suffer very bad piston slap from cold? Something to do with the amount of silicon in the metal? Maybe I'm wrong.....

Andy Duff, cossie pistons sound great , once Ajay moves house and gives the new address i can actually send my money and subscribe instead of feeling like a free loader

dropped you an email regarding a service on my Zed dont know if you got it or not buddy

stebbs

Yes, JUN pistons are notorious for making the car sound almost like a diesel on cold startups

-Eric

On a side note: anything over 88 will require metal headgasket.

Thanks Eric - nice to know I'm not going mad.... :)

Who cares what it sounds like at cold-start? Possibly down to unfinished mapping - mine sounds a bit clattery (not like a diesel) but runs like *absolute CACK* from a cold-start! So I let it run for maybe a minute, then it's fine. It's no big thing. It even says in the Cossie (Saff) owners manual not to worry about the 'orrible noise - that's just forged pistons for you (apparently).

well i have since had a reply and the cost will be...........for a batch of 24 pistons with gudgeon pins and circlips £89.86ea. You will need to get a set of rings but i belever that will not be a problem.

So people what do you think?

Where do you guys reccomend to go for a full set of drop forged pistons ??? Have already thought about SE nissan ??? what do you think. It's not the cost of the actual cost of the pistons that worries me but the cost of the labour involved.
