I bought a normally aspirated 300 recently.

The roads have been pretty slippery so it seems plenty quick enough. But maybe one day I'll want more power.

I realise turboing it would cost what... £4K maybe?

But I reckon nitrous would be more like £1K.

Does anyone know if it's been done?

can the engine and gearbox handle the extra power ok?

Cheers folk

LOL!! theres even less to go wrong with a Micra, & i hear that pushbikes are even easier to work on & have extremely low maintenance costs!! :D[/quote

OOOH, look at her getting all blase, cos she works in a garage

I think basically Twin turbos are for people with small willys :)

:D

I find in a turbo i get there 3 minutes quicker but have to wait 4 mintues for the tubs to cool down :D

People who say NA's are slow havn't seen cerina driving lol

Just puttin a 75BHP shot of Nitrous to work in conjunction with all my other mods on my 91 TT, hopin to take it up to about 475- 500bhp at the flywheel. will let you know how I get on with it , luckily I have a good mate who drag races an 8 second car and he specialises in NOs setups.

if youre gonna take the piss jock, at least learn how to use the quote function!! :slap:

so when do you swap yours for a TT then, or are NA's for people with even smaller willys!!

should I nitrous my NA

Yes!

of course!

No!

Don't!

Keep it original. Nitrous is a temporary fix. It's just 'cheating'. Use the engine the way it was meant to be used. Having Nitrous is like something Dick Dastardly would use. He never won in the end you know.

Now you know why Dick Dastardly's dog Mutley laughed like he did ??? He kept on snorting the Nitrous straight from the bottle he was as high as a kite on laughing gas.

You might have a point, mine's only about 0.3 Metres long :(

boost is god

Sorry but I feel that someone should take the role of sanity police here.

If you want a fast zed, you HAVE to start with a TT. ANyone with an NA talking about serious tuning and mods just has no idea what the word FAST means. Period!

The only reason for buying an NA is that you can't afford the insurance or maintenance on a TT. And TT's are just the cheapest supercar in the known fookin world, so all you NA owners are cheapskates and you know it.

The best thing to do with an NA is burn it, claim the insurance and buy a proper zed!

Sorry guys, but sometimes the truth hurts, you have to be cruel to be kind etc etc!

Not everyone wants 'serious tuning'.

The only reason for buying an NA is not that you can't afford the insurance or maintenance. I can't remember my insurance quotes, but I am sure for a few there was little or no difference between an NA and a TT.

If you keep the car well maintained, there is not going to be a big difference in costs. As an example, although people on here have told me it's not really necessary I always use Optimax- so that's not being a cheapskate.

If you gave me the choice between my NA (SWB, manual, 25k miles, almost in new condition) and many of the 80-100k ragged old crusty TTs on here I'd choose mine every time. I can't afford the big mods/bodywork some have lavished on their cars, but I don't think every TT owner here can either. I made a choice to have a manual in excellent condition with a load of history. It cost £6k plus the wheels I put on it. I could have got two shit heap TTs for that.

I use the car every day at the moment, so it's more or less a daily driver right now- not everyone want to go like an arse on public roads so the NA power is fine for the way I use the car. I'd still like a GOOD twin turbo- but not at the expense of my NA. Does a zed have to have more than 280bhp to be worth it? Why not say all stock zeds are shit because they don't have over 340 at the wheels? If I wanted a fast track car I probably wouldn't get a zed for that anyway. I can do a lot more than the national speed limit in my NA. How much faster can you break the law than me? A couple of seconds?

LOL!! you really are missing the point here!

Not everyone wants serious tuning ,but its something im sure most people on here would like. I'll be honest, i dont have a TT because i cant afford it. Im just 20, bought the car myself, insure the car myself, run the car myself, mod the car myself, so replacing fooked turbos would be near immposible for me. The differnce in insurance is bugger all! Ah well, i dont have a TT, but i do have a SWB (million times better looking than LWB IMO), its black (best colour for a zed IMO), it fookin immaculate, and runs great. A lot better than the shitty corsas and saxos most other people my age drives.

Craig David, if you wanted power you should have bought a TT!!

Paul C

I looked Waaay back to the first post again to remember what the argument was about. Should he nitrous his NA. Then someone said sell it and buy a TT if he wants more power. That's what he should do :)

But I'm not missing the point- I don't think he should nitrous his NA. I think he should leave it as it was intended and if he wants loads more power buy a TT. How am I missing the point, am I not allowed on here if I'm not going to tune the crap out my car?

----Seriously I'm slow- how do you mean I'm missing the point?

Nothin wrong with Nitrous on any vehicle, it's no big deal and it's not even expensive

I think it's artificial- not a 'permanent' mod- you can't really count it as part of your engine as such. 60 seconds and it's gone, and your engine is left at it's base power.

If you want sanity police: At the end of the day what you do to your car, or which model you drive is a personal choice. Nitrous, for me, is about the engineering of it, this is why it has taken me so long to fix it. I could have just bolted it on and gone silly with it, but i want it done properly. And all the people who think it is about how fast the others guys car is, are missing the point. If you are happy with your car, then fook them as cant take a joke. If your not, buy a TT, supra, skyline whatever melts your butter.

I 2nd that statement , as long as you are happy with your motor who cares about who is doin what with their engines ? When you most enjoy yourself in your chosen vehicle it's just you your car and the road involved, how you get your personal kicks is down to you depending on how you drive and the risks you take on the given road conditions. I have been driving a crappy courtesy car (Peugot 205) while my Z has been in the paintshop I have had a lot of fun throwing it around and racing people (Kind of) and have enjoyed another side of motoring that I have not encountered 4 a long time. Basically get in ya car drive, enjoy F*$* every body else on the road.

5hrs at a decent speed and ur out of petrol. Not permanent performance ;)

I'm sure i'll get slagged off for this but i have to say a wolf in sheeps clothing is cool. A sheep in wolf's clothing is as gay as a tranny in wales.

Isn't it embarrasing when golf gti's and saxos etc burn past flash looking yet slow na's?

Muhahahahahaha

I am going to shut up about this now but I just HAVE to reply to that!!

I have NEVER been burnt off by a golf gti or saxo or similar. I don't see how a 225bhp car can be seen as a sheep in wolf's clothing. I admit I am not the hardest of drivers, but the car is NOT SLOW FFS!!! There may be boy racer hatches that can easy kill me, I'm sure there are some that could go for a standard TT as well. I'm sure there are some M3 drivers who have tried to waste a standard TT. I bet there are folk who have been left standing by an old git in a DB7. Do you NEVER have a vectra or a tranny van or a passat or a saleman in a suit in an Omega take you on the motorway? Do you just never let them do it? If some guy wants to pass and is right up my arse, I let them pass and smile knowing if I wanted to I could push it to 140 or there abouts and there's not much that could keep up. OK, more than could take a TT, but if they are going to do it, they are going to do it whether I was in an NA or a TT. That's not the reason I got the car. If I was that insecure I would have got a TT in the first place :D

I promise I will shut the **** up now and stop adding clueless stuff that's missing the point ;)

Depends why you bought the zed in the first place, if you were buying it for it's performance then ideally you'd go for the TT like I did but if you bought it to impress the laydees then it doesn't matter either way cos girls don't know the difference (sorry to any ladies on this forum  )

I suspect that some of the young people who have bought Zed's have got them for the latter. Tell you what, wish I had a zed when I was younger instead of that Renault 5 turbo!

Tell you what, wish I had a zed when I was younger instead of that Renault 5 turbo!

lol, at least you had a turbo on yours...

Had a Renault 5 GTL 1.4, what a beast :D

Well I bought a TT auto for the push/kick down, I rarely go over the ton just use the power on straights. If I'd had a brain I've have gone for an NA as by the time the turbos spool up and start to push I'm backing off. Boy is it fun though.

Best cars engine I've owned for my style of driving was a 300HP NA V8.

Isn't it embarrasing when golf gti's and saxos etc burn past flash looking yet slow na's?

Well if you just want power why dont you have a supra or skyline? I bought a zed because its the best lookin 'affordable' car on the road. Cant remember ever seeing a Golf GTi or Saxo 'burn' past me!!
