No Idle, now Not starting either

Hi, I just started my Z, (been out in it this afternoon and all ok), started fine but no tickover. Took it for a gentle drive, alls OK, got back still no idle.

Disconnected the battery for about 10 mins, and now it wont start at all. battery spins the engine over really well, fuel pump runs and then stops as it should. But nothing.

Help. Series 2 jap auto.

Yes, there is plenty, as I said the fuel pump runs and then stops once the presure is OK.

Mark ,

sounds like the PTU has failed, check the connections and clean any grotty ones you find, i had a similar poblem a couple of days ago except mine ran but the idle was all over the place , hunting terribly and nearly cutting out ........fortunatley for me Kirbz and his Ace Mechanic Dad came to the rescue , ran a diagnostic and chenged the PTU the car is as it should be now .fast and smooth to run a diagnostic lift the carpet in the passenger footwell ( just on with velcro) take off the wooden panel 4 bolts........find the ECU ( big gold anodised scary looking metal box ) undo it from its mounts 3 or 4 bolts . turn on the ignition but dont start the car turn the pot clockwise fully wait 2 / 3 seconds turn fullt counter clockwise and check the ignition light , the first long flash is the first digit of the fault codes the short flash the secod digit ie 1 long flash two short flashes is 12 two long flashes 2 short flashes 22

check the FAQ for code meanings it should point out what the problem is

good luck

I spoke to Jeff TT this morning, very helfull too. This morning it started ok, ran on about 4-5 cylinders, too much fuel in there, ran it for a little while and it cleared up nicely, then as it warmed up it started to mess around again.

I have yet to do a ecu check, forgot last night when I posted, but suspect the temp sender thingy after talking to Jeff.

I wil be on it later and report back. thanks so far.

do you have an induction kit fitted ?? if its been damp /wet roads when youve been running about you have ould have sucked water into the intake and soaked the coil in the Mass Air Flow Meter worth checking mate , its a quick fix , also ties in nicely with the too much petrol symptom and running eratically on 4 or 5 pots , take off the centre section between the lights remove the induction kit and you will see if the MAFM is damp dry it out with a hair drier gently and your up and running again

thanks, but no it has a standard induction and i have only driven in the dry. Appreciate it
