Yes, only use a nissan filter, if you don't

want to go to a nissan dealer, try zedworld,

they stock service parts (cheaper too).

My TT auto holds approx 3.5 ltrs with a

filter change.....not much is it!

are the filters the same on the uk and the import.

No that ain't a lot, my Mrs has a 1.4 polo

that holds more than that!

I put a post up earlier about whether it'd

be a good idea to flush the engine or not,

no replies yet though! :(

Been told to use magnatec oil.

just checking as above only use a nissan filter ive been using halfords thought id been maybe using the rong one or summat.

so how many litres ov oil cos i read one ov them flip up book things on the shelf in halfords with all the different parts in and the na it says takes 4.1litres.

Hi all

I only use the Nissan filter. When I last placed an order with Courtesy, I also ordered enough for the next 2 years services :p

I use Shell Helix Ultra fully synth, 5W40. I think it takes about 3.75 litres, because there is always a small amount left in the 4litre can when I collect the car from my mechanic.

Richard :smw:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

we all must have different size sumps 3.5, 3.75, and 4.1.

IMO using a nissan filter isnt vital, quality of the oil is.

I think the filter is the same one as the micra uses!

I use castrol rs fully synth every 3000, and it always takes exactly

4 litres to the max on dipstick. (my mechanic jacks the car at an angle to get as much oil out the sump as poss)

Mobil 1 here

every 6000 miles and only a nissan filter due to the fact that somone I know had a patern filter on a BMW that split while driving and killed the engine.

Cheers

Ady

The american filter now discontinued, is meant to be a superior item to the now french made filter!!

Personally I would use champion who come well in the independent reviews or the purolator!

And the filter is as important as the oil you use?

300zx org.uk give oil capacties as;

Year 90 NA 4.3/8 w/f & 3.7/8 w/o filter

Year 91-96 3.5/8 w/f & 3.1/8 w/o filter same in both NA & TT

I did an oil change last month & bought 5L of synthetic & used as much as to fill the engine to the correct mark on the dip stick!

Thats not rocket science!

Oil filters, now then? Any more views on this!

Arthur

That's because he's putting it in his JAG ! He puts vegetable oil in your engine ! :p :p

ok thanks guys. Great help !

1 thing: Is the TT the same filter as the N/A ?(i think it should be but thought id ask)

yep! well it was last time i chagerd thre oil on a N/A

Trev, the zx owners manual states every 6000 miles so I am not sure where the 3000 miles oil change comes from. IMOP mobil 1 is the best oil on the market and if I I didn't read all these tales of woe on here I rekon the oil would be good for 12000 miles in a Z, as i have said before on threads, never rev the car over 2500/3000 revs until fully warm and always cruise home for the last few miles to let the engine cool.

(Try and go faster than your last top speed on every journey)

My car has done 103000 miles and has had mobil 1 from 35000 miles onwards, it may have had this before 35000 miles but I doubt it as it was serviced by nissan up to then. The car drives like new .......no knocks, no smoke and I have no worries that the tubos are about to go. Sorry to go on but I have thrashed and killed quite a few cars but I have never waited 14 years to get a car (1990 my boss had a brand new Z and I knew I would have one eventually so therefore I look after it) People say you must do this and that but how many are fornula 1 car machanics? ........not me.

Now I am getting really boring, but I have to add, when I get up in the morning I have a cuppa, take my time to get ready, so I do the same with my car, warm it up first and then race arround in it like a nutter but don't forget to wind it down at the end of the day.

Ok while I am off on one, the cam belt change was done at 54000 miles by nissan. I have recently changed the thermostat and notice damage to the bottom pulley that I suspect was done by the nissan dealer during the belt change. The reason I say this is because I read a detailed article on changing the cam belt that said DO NOT try and pull the bottom pulley wheel off using the facing edge as you WILL cause damage

................Thats It I've had my say and most of it completely off topic.

Sorry for going on

Change the oil and filter for good quality brand name fully synthetic oil and a good filter EVERY 3000 MILES!!!

"NUFF SAID"

I dont know where all this quality filter thing comes from, regardless of what brand you buy it will of probably be made in india by children getting paid 10p a week, do you really think that nissan lay on a special production line just for oil filters?....No, they buy the filters from the best reliable source they can, in massive quantities at a good price.

If someone brings a nissan one to the mids meet ill bring a wix one, and i might pop to halfords and get one too, and we can cut them open, bet you theyre practically the same inside!

I bet if you go down the local market you can buy Levi jeans made in inida by children paid 10p a week, please let me know how long the zip lasts compared to a pair of genuine Levi jeans (probrably still made in india but using better quality materials).

Just checked my maintenance records:

Genuine Nissan Oil Filter (part no:A5208-H8904): £5.20 (incl. VAT)

Sump Plug Washer (part no: 11026-01M02): £0.97p (incl. VAT)

From experience:

The Halfords and WIX filters are of a different size to the Nissan filter. Oil filters (like fuel filters) have a certain capacity and flow through rate. It is therefore best to use a genuine Nissan part. I'm not saying the other filters will cause any damage (I don't know about that) but if Nissan fitted a specific type of filter to the Z - a car once billed as Japan's first super car - then I suspect they did so for a reason (granted it could have been for ease of supply if it was a common part amongst the range). For a total price of around £6.50 you can have peace of mind. Don't try and save money on the wrong things - clean oil and filters are vital to the proper running of the car and can be viewed as money in the bank. Use the right products at the correct interval and you'll save money in the long run. The handbook does say to change the oil every 6k miles but going by the way most owners drive their Zed it is highly advisable to change it more frequently, ie every 3k miles.
