About to order some Goodyear Eagle F1s for my Z

(235/45zr17 front, 255/40zr17 rear)

Before I do, are there any other brands I should consider?

I'm only interested in grip (i.e. staying alive in the wet), not wear.

A little sideways incident in the rain yesterday told me it was time to take the utter sh1te off the rear wheels once and for all...

J spec TT's have 225's all round, only the UK and yankee ones got fat back wheels. :(

hi b19rks

j-spec tryes should be 225/50 x16 allround

the 235 tryes will fit but your speedo will read slower if you keep 50 profile and it might upset the handling (bit sqidgy on back end) you might be better buying uk rear rims and running 245/45 x 16

funny how people rate tyres differently, i've had proxes but didnt really rate them in the wet, a view shared by the tyre reports on mytyres.com. its a top site, ive got some fuldas on at the mo, havent really had anything to complain about yet but ive not pushed it too hard yet.

Yes scoops, opinions seem to vary quite alot.

I guess one mans 'push it to the limit' is another mans 'sunday afternoon drive'.

My Z had continentals on when i got it, and they were awfull (sorry arthur) even in the dry the back would wiggle like mad , in the wet forget it!

Changed to Bridgestone S02's and felt like a different car, very hard to slide it even in the wet booting it out of roundabouts, they really bite. Also the only car tyre ive seen that has 2 ply sidewalls for strength and safety.

BTW SRRAE and Mac , do u have history? lol,

u seem to disagree about everything lol.

So many opinions, yet at the end of the day you have to make your own mind up. Everyone drives in their own unique style, have their car(s) set up to individual specifications and have their expectations.

I have had many powerful sportcars, a Supra TT (superb), a Mitsibushi 3000GTO (crap), Lotus Espirit S2 (unreliable), Nissan 200SX (average but good value), Sierra Cosworth (Interesting) and now I have a Nissan 300ZX TT and I think this beats them all. It has the looks, power, reliablity and the presence to be true legend and become one of the best classics ever.

Hence, I have tried out many different tyres and I can say hand on heart that Toyo Proxes T1 are not quite the real deal, the Michelin Pilot SX are good in the wet but not great in the dry, the Bridgestones S02's are a wonderful all round tyre and are very forgiving and wear well, I tried Falken and Hankook Ventus Sport K104's but I wouldn't touch them with a 1000ft barge pole if you have a heavy right foot and not overly familiar with your "Z" (the words lampost, wall and ditch come to mind!!). Goodrich BF Profiler again were a good all round tyre and wear well.

This is my opinion, but only you know what you ultimately want and can afford!!

Cheers

Chris :D
