basically he bought the car with seal tips needing replacing, has rebuilt it all with all new parts, came to start it up and it only fires on one rotar. it can run on one from cold but the other won't fire. It has got fuel and spark but won't go. Its as though its flooding that rotar. checked and tried a million things. it runs the car on one rotar and when it gets warm sometimes the other one fires up a little bit. If the accelerator is touched at all it cuts out straight away.

any ideas?

Duff injector(s) on 2nd rotor or maybe still poor seal and not enough compression. Trust he proved it had good compression?

hes got good compression on both (120 on both) Hes thinking along same lines, stuck open injector.

It's been a little while since I messed with an RX7 that I had but seem to recall that when measuring the compression with a standard type gauge I had to keep the release valve on the gauge open and watch the gauge as the rotor turned and look for the 3 peaks as the rotor turns, if you don't you can read high compression but it will only be for the one tip i.e. you could have one tip sealing and the other two not sealing, hope that makes sense! Also to get the best seal to get it started you can pump ATF fluid into the spark plug holes (I think about 5-10ml) to coat the rotor tips,if you do this don't start it in a garage or built up area cos you will get tons,I mean tons, of white smoke but it'll burn off after a good run.

ok here goes,,,,,ive done the compression test,,,,while holding the release valve,,,,,i get 120psi in both rotors,,,,on all sides of the rotors,,,,, ive tried the ATF about 30 times,,,,makes no difference,,,i always get the same thing,,,1 rotor running other isnt,,

ive checked spark plugs i get consistent sparks,,,all seem nice and powerful..

if i leave car running when it gets hot the 2nd rotor starts to fire,,,intermitently,,,which is strange,,,,but means the heat is haveing some impact on the problem.....latest advice is that it could be stuck open injector,,,,,and more info would be greatly appreciated,,,,cheers

I'm no expert on a RX7 but i'm happy to take a look see if i can help?

O.K. youv'e got a spark, compression and fuel, should fire if the sparks happening at the right time! If your bro's rebuilt it he knows a lot more about it than me so I know it's stating the obvious but are the plug leads are connected to the correct rotors/positions.

Geezer give us a bell at Grasshopper. We have a couple of RX7`s here. One has a very high spec. One of our mechanics should be able to help you. Ask for theo.
