Hi Guys, 205GTI in the mirror touching my ass so I thought ok I don't normally floor it but time for "launch" in my "Japanese Farrari", travelling at about 60MPH took off the overdrive and booted it, obviously he did the same but was amazed that I didn't start to pull away from him until about 95MPH I am running a totaly stock UK 94 auto Z, do you think his was stock?

BTW ran out of road at 120MPH.

Of course this all took place on an autobarhn in Germany.

Cheers

Doubt it was stock - I had a 205 gti still in my mirrors at nearly 140mph, only managed to pull out about 10 car lengths on it from about 80. Remember that if they are running MI-16 engines (which this one sounded like when he passed me entering a roundabout), a tuned one could be 170-180bhp in about 900kg. Work out the power-to-weight ratio against a standard Z and it's only superior torque / better driving that will make the difference in my opinion.

I used to have a 205 and am considering getting another as a daily driver if I move house - great fun.

you may be in safety boost

take it ur car is na.

If you switch off the o'drive, it goes to a 3spd box,

which hasn't as much top end as with o'drive on :nono:

Put it in power mode with o'drive on :hyper:

As before: is it a TT?

I used to have a 200sx s13, slightly tweaked (filter,pipe etc..),

that would keep up with a zed, had 145mph from it

It's that power to weight ratio again!

Cheers Alex

I thought it was just Me, it was very wet but in a straight line and I have got full tread allround, just didn't imagine they were that quick he was loosing ground after a ton.

Scoops, boost is fine but one question if I may, I think I flicked the overdrive button back on at some point. Now I know all about the auto box and that it will almost red line then change but I am not sure about the concept of the overdrive, ie do I leave the overdrive off altogether in this situation or am I gonna run out of revs at say 140? I have had the car for over a year and understand the overdrive being like 5th gear but in a head to head should I just turn it off and forget it?

Cheers

wot difference does it make putting it into power mode when i floor mine it lights up power but if im driving normally and switch it on and floor it, it doesnt seem to do anything.

Sorry........forgot to mention TT

I have a UK TT auto, it says the following in the handbook

"For normal driving have overdrive switched on (but only will engage when engine is warmed up. Switch off for going up and down long slopes when engine braking is an advantage"

"Warns not to drive at high speeds for extended periods with overdrive switched off"

"When cruising at low speed, you may feel uncomfortable shift shock as it shifts between 3rd and overdrive, in such a case switch overdrive off"

Mine comes on aswell when i floor it, think the switch just

holds it in power mode all through the rev range

Use's loads more fuel though!

Anyone know what the ''hold'' switch does?

yes do not drive for extended periods ov time with overdrive off unlike me thicked i am

bought the car in manchester and drove all the way to carlisle with the od off revving its balls off never had a car with od before didnt no wot it meant.

there was a post on this somewhere i think it holds it in a certain gear more for winter driving correct me if im rong guys.

Yer mate youre right , it will pull away in second from a standing start.

ady, my zed eat's any thing and everything on the road, never been beaten, so i would say that the 205gti was heavly modifyed.

Cheers ttop

makes me feel better if I think it is modded. I will always rember when I had a sierra XR4i not the 4x4 but the original 4i completeley stock but a bit like the Z for its time seriously fast for the price you pay. Anyway at a set of lights a MK1 escort completely blew me away and further down the road we stopped and he too had a V6 under the bonnet but was carrying no wait.

As teenagers we used to do the same with our mopeds (sorry to show my age) I ran an AP50 with an A100 engine in it and my mate had a fizz with a yp 100 enginge in it(I think thats right).

we had some great laughs off the lights, complete with micron pipes K'n'N air filters

and oversize carb jets.................Oh well.........Boys will be Boys

Cheers

PS

Can't wait for the re-release of the raliegh chopper

Depends what was in it really.

Used to run a 230bhp one that would waste a stock Z easily.

john -

what happen to your 205 ??

i had a 205 1.9 when i was 19 - one of the best cars i ever owned - it might be quite interesting to get my hands on a 230 bhp 205??

Regards,

alex

i have a 205 dimma with an mi16 engine and gti-6 gearbox firstly running on throttle bodies and then with a shorrocks supercharger......faster easily than a stock z and used to trash most i came up against on the street only real problem with it was that it went through drive shafts at a frightening rate...would still have it now but for a nasty incident on the lancs after which i had to get rid or i would have been a dead man by now

french shit dont like em. mate of mine had a mi164x4 that was kinda cool though

I think the reason why you may have not been able to shrug him off was due to the fact that you got a auto, my advise is to bin it and fit a manual to your Zed!!! :D

As far as I know it was crashed then dismantled

Can always make another one though :)

Face it, as an owner of an until recently stock Zed, they ain't all that fast in stock mode, there is a BIG difference between a Stock Zed and a Chipped one, well over 100RWHP! There are plenty of cars out there with a much better Power / Weight ratio.

Get an exhaust, Induction, chip, decat, boost upgrade and it'll be a LOT faster.

A mate of mine had a 205 with an Mi16 engine in it, god that felt fast! it was like doing 150 is a biscuit tin!

....Not all that fast in stock mode.....?

Sorry Herman, I have to dissagree with you there, mate.

How many cars on the road can hit 100 from rest in just over 14 secs in stock mode?

Any car that does it in under 20secs is considered quick. Even the light as feck MR2gt takes 19.9 to reach 100. Yes, there are cars with quick 0-60 times but they take an eternity to reach the ton.

i understand your point about a chipped one, though. I'm still not ready to try that yet......

Richard :smw:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Sounds silly, but a fast 0-60 / 100 doesn't make it a realy fast car, there are plenty of other cars out there which are far faster point to point.
