I was mate I thought I was going for the Nismo 6 speed, but I found a place in the States that does an auto that can take 1000bhp;) :hyper:

yeah thought so.

now would be a good time to go manual though. ;):D

   :x:

35k my box has done and it's still as good as the day it was fitted, will a manual clutch do that sort of milage with a Z kicking out decent power?

Should fink so if it's a decent one like RPS. Don't tell me your auto box / cooler is stock!

I can't believe someone's accused me of talking sense. :D

  • 3 weeks later...

video mpg of Crail quarter mile

Well you did ask to see it. Red versus black auto versus manual

The red one is Colin Dicks and the black was semco32's at the time.

Colins auto was doing the quarter in about 13.2 I think.

Hope this works. I cut out wait between the burnout and actually starting and shrunk the file a bit as well.

dont really want to get involved in the auto vs manual debate

but have been a driver of auto's for 20 years+

and the improvement in them is superb, i had a little "twinge" with my zx box

only last week, but finally got a chance to test it out properly today, since fluid change, and left a newly bought skyline from liverpool port auction

got the zx up to 150+ on the m58 before i pulled off,

the kickdown and changes in gear were as good as any auto ive driven, if i have any faults in this box i think they will show up in the next few weeks lol

one of THE best auto boxes was the one in the rover 827i (the honda one lol)

and up to NOW the zx compares very well, i'm not as well clued up on zx boxes as some on this site, but like anything looked after with the right cooling and regular servicing and DRIVEN properly, it should hold up well

in the last 5 years i have had numerous cars ALL auto, and only had problems with 1, and as most of you know, cars today the days of an hour for a clutch change are gone,

anyway each to his own, and my left leg is only for standing on when pulling me pants on in the morning :nono:

Are both the cars in the same state of tune?

Even so you can fluff the gear changes in a manual!

nobody seems to have mentioned crunching manual boxes so far... So not only do thy eat clutches but synchromesh too.

Now like my mate Cos said try to find an R34 GTR with an auto gearbox. U should decide what u want by ur driving. If u want a DD to drive in the city where u want have clear way then go for an auto.

When the Z was made up it suppose to be a touring car.3.0L engine with low engine noise a comfortable suspension and with great looks would suit the yankes to cruise there long roads that's why there so many autos

LMFAO I've never seen so much shite :D First thing to do with an auto is fit a larger auto box cooler - wow how good is that? :D Second thing is to have the box rebuilt for around £1200 - fantastic why the hell did I buy a manual? :D Mmmmm with the money spent on that you could have an RPS carbon-carbon WITH flywheel which would last the lifetime of the car, drive just like stock feel, and be able to take around 750BHP. Try putting 750BHP through a stock auto box... or ANY zed auto box for that matter!!!

LMAO at the shit about having to change gear in corners! If you're doing that then I can easily see why you have the auto ;):D

At the end of the day it really is down to personal preference and how you want the car to drive. Mac, why was the manual you drove SHITE?

"Personal preference" are the 2 key words here. I can't believe this gets discussed so much. Its like the best colour thing - there is no answer, just whatever the individual prefers.

Its all good fun though.

Hope nobody took me serious in the sense of auto vs man - red vs black.

Both cars were not in the exact same state of tune. The red one was with SE chip, SE modified heads, big ICs and the black one was also chipped but I think he was stuck in safety boost at the time and didnt realise it.

no Silver is best James :slap: Ok as regards all this talk about uprated coolers on the auto box I have a question  as the standard cooler is in the Rad which is typically running at 80 degrees does this have a better cooling effect than an external cooler which can only be cooled by air and there fore could quite happily sit at or be at a much higher temp , I think it would be interesting to rig up an oil temp gauge to the auto box to see if there was any benifit to an external cooler.

No.......its always a good crack the auto vs manual thing!

Another question , what about an Auto with Manwell tubs ???

Another question , what about an Auto with Manwell tubs ???

:nono: :nono: :nono: u will increase the lack that's y the tubs are different from auto to man

The less lag the better for me, so tbh I would suffer some of the power loss from the smaller tubs so that they spool up quicker. I'm not after top end or a bhp figure I can boast about in the pub either, mid range is what its all about for me. A manual conversion sounds like a good mix, for a healthy amount of torque.

I think Nissan would've chucked them in if they could've got them to work as efficient....but they spent quite a bit of time on this to get the performance equal as poss.
