Hi,

I know the insurance questions have been asked over and over but...

I have a J Z32 TT with the usual, air filter, chip, boost increase, exhaust and wheel modifications. I pay £585 with Privilege insurance.

I'm trying to buy another Z with more power. J spec, manual with 350-400 BHP. The car is valued up to 14k.

Now even with my age (30), full unprotected NCB, no convictions, no claims, clean license, limited milage (5k), voluntary excess of £500, cat1, trakker, garaged, domestic/pleasure only and a second car, I am being quoted.....wait for it.....£1800

That's with Adrian Flux. Tesco quoted £1812 (go tesco!). Hyperformance £2000. Privilege Insurance £2327. Many other companies including most of the ones mentioned in previous insurance threads refused to quote.

There must be other people in a similar position on here. Imported car with 100BHP mods and cars which are far in excess of the market value.

Does anyone have any thoughts or advice on getting cars like this insured preferably for under a grand....I'm 30 ffs!!!

Try Dorset Insurance, I'm with them with mods declared. Expensive but cheapest I found due to age / post code.

Yes Matty, it is Tonys car :) .....and what a car!

I've signed up for the Z register tonight. Hopefully Haughton Insurance will be able to pull something out of the bag.

Conclusion:

Thanks for all the information guys. There is no happy ending to this story though I'm afraid. Haughton and GSI were the most accommodating of all the companies and were certainly prepared to offer some keen prices with all mods declared. Haughton said £850 with a £350 excess and they would negotiate on further discounts for less than 5000 miles and more voluntary excess. What they wouldn't do was agree a value over and above £7500. I spoke to Dominic at GSI who told me that even with a third party valuation of the car they wouldn't be able to insure it for more than the £7500. He said insurance companies just weren't interested in doing that kind of thing anymore.

The moral of the story is: Get an insurance quote before you do anything else when buying your next car because it doesn't matter how old you are or how clean your license is.....if you loose your expensive Z the insurance company will be writing you a very small cheque ;(

A big thank you to Tony Lack for all his help.

Guess I'll have to pay my membership and spend some pennies on my Z instead.

Don't know if you tried Lifesure (0870 366 1235)? They're happy to quote for imports, second car/classic policy, mods and agreed value to 10K subject to an independent valuation.

try the insurance factory £948 agreed value £18500 similar mods to the z you are after 0870 7778181 35 full n.c.d second car .

Too late was the cry. Phoned SE/Nisstek at 3pm this afternoon and made myself feel better by letting bob tell me all the nice things he could do to my car. No sooner was I off the phone with SE, I had the RAC on the phone and some 45 minutes later my motor was winging it's way down to SE.....for free (go RAC).

Having driven Tonys manual....thats the first thing that's going in. Rip that naughty kick-down-on-a-bend autobox out! :hyper:

Thx again for all the help. I'll ring all these companies again for my renewal and post all the prices up later.

Jonno.
