Important: Flares in Jap spec Zeds

Hi all,

I know the topic of flares has been touched on before (I think it was JeffTT ...) but I thought I'd share this news with you as it is quite important. I had a flare stuck under the passenger side dash and decided to get rid of it (propperly). First of all the things are illegal on the roads in the UK and besides that mine was about 8 years out of date ... I took it to my local police station and casually asked where I could get rid of the thing. I was then promptly escorted to a private room where I was asked a bunch of questions regarding where I got it from, where I bought the car, etc. To cut a long story short, an officer specialised in explosives came with me to my car and took the thing out to be properly disposed of. Needless to say that the cops were not best pleased to find someone with a flare in their car, let alone an out of date one! I got off lightly (aparently) but there is potential for charges of carrying an illegal explosive (yeah ... this is what I was told this morning ...)

SO - for all of you who have a flare in the car please get rid of it properly. You don't want something as trivial as a flare to cause you countless headaches.

Just thought you ought to know.

Cheers!

Danny

How do you dispose of it 'properly' in this case?

I don't fancy taking it in to the local police station just so they can interiew me and escort me back to my car and find my illegal tinted windows too... :-)

Has anyone tried setting theirs off?

Flare? Whats this about a Flare?

Do all cars have them or just the imports?

Oooo

Flare in a jap import???? Please explain why one would be in a car?

Simon

My flares got all caught up between the accelerator and brake pedal.

Does anyone think that perhaps if I bought an auto with a bigger brake pedal this wouldnt happen, or maybe I should just buy some better trousers, Gromit.

Glen with his 'go on, hit him terry' Arthur Daley stylee flares.

To those who hav`nt seen one, the road flare is like the type you see American cops use at an accident they are placed on the road to warn other motorists, assume the material inside which creates the smoke/flare light could be unstable when out of date?

Jeff TT

And where would you find one of these things on your Zed?

Simon

in the passenger footwell, the one in ours was thrown in the back eat though

HM Coastguards will take your old flares. Not a lot of use if you live inland, I know.

why dont you just set them of they are cool?

Too right ! And then fill the gap with a Maglite - I reckon it'd be about the right size.
