Not being a great fan of electric string and wiggly amps I aint so hot on what this new HID light upgrade is all about, so can someone give me some gen on it please!

Whats it all about?

Is it still necessary to do the COS reflective style upgrade as well?

What bulbs do you have to use and do they cost an arm and a leg?

They appear to light the road up much better (seen the TTNet piccies) but are they legal over here?

Cos Mate,

Seen all that stuff on the bacofoil job (no offense Iain!) but its the new fangled HID upgrade that I'm interested in learning about, especially as theres a group buy going on for it at the mo.

Just trying to establish if its worth doing (anything is worth doing when lights are this shite) instead of/as well as all the other tweaks.

oh right - sorry mate,

Well, I have seen the HID kit on a Z but you can't compare it to anything else, not even 130w bulbs. The HID produces a beam that is so bright and direct that no standard bulb would even come close. Worth the money if you can stretch to it.

HTH

But the kits on Ebay are illegal I think.

I thought that HID lights had to have self adjusters on or something and not just a relay and a fitting which can take HID.

This is the problem. The MoT tester is gonna notice how bright the lights are and wont take 2 seconds to notice a mod like that, which might start em asking questions. Plus you have to butcher a set of lights to fit em!

Curious and curiouser!

Wonder if Paul C knows?

did answer this on the origional thread!

as long as the beam pattern is still retained then theres no reason why they would fail.

someone needs to do it & confirm theres still a good beam pattern

I have the upgrade on my Z and its brilliant, I,ve not looked at the mot side of things yet. BUT the lights DONT need butchering just a little careful dremel work---- I can still fit standard bulbs in 20 minutes if I need to.

Pete ;)

A mate had one on his motorbike (CBR1100XX).

When he turned it on in gave a quick flicker like a flourescent tube kitchen light, then it came on super-strong, way better than any regular headlight.

He broke it when he put the bike in a ditch and it cost about £700 I think. but it was good while it lasted.

Pete,

Any chance of some pictures of what it looks like installed?

Dont suppose you took some as you were modifying the light units?

Either post on here or email to me.

Have you had the Cos shiny headlight upgrade as well, or is there no need now with this set up?

Thanks
