Knackered uprated suspension:(

Hi,

I am in need of some advice from some of you more technically minded lot please.

I am due to pick my car up from the docks in Southampton on Saturday all being well. The car went through the MOT in the end but had one problem with one of the rear shocks.

It seems that the shock is leaking oil because of the seal and perhaps the shaft being worn. They are apparently made by a company called Trust which I believe means that they are very expensive.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get it fixed and where?

I really need to get this sorted as the guys in Southampton have fitted 2 of the original standard units (that the last owner in Japan was good enough to sell with the car) on the rear. Therefore it has passed the MOT okay.

I am really not sure if this will be any good for the handling of my car at all having uprated suspension on the front and standard on the rear.

I guess my only option if the faulty shock cannot be repaired is to buy a pair (or 1 if they sell em like that) of either the same Trust shocks already fitted on my car or another decent brand like Bilstein or Koni etc.

I guess I could just put the standard shocks on all round but that would be a real shame seeing I have 3 perfectly good Trust ones:(

Any ideas out there as to what I can do?

Cheers,

Justin

Right, after a bit of thought on this matter I have decided to bite the bullet and fit some new coilovers all round.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what to go for. I really don't want to pay silly money for them. A link to some decent sites that sell them would be appreciated.

Also, is there a FAQ on fitting these to Zeds?

Cheers,

Justin

Funny, when my car came into this country, it had exactly the same problem. Ie. a set of Trust shock absorbers of which one of the rears was knackered!I take it yours are adjustable? It's intersesting to note that these are actually made by KYB and you should be able to see their name subtley inscribed on the shocks. I just replaced my rears with standard Jap spec shocks from the Z centre. These are also made by KYB and I believe have the equivalent stiffness to the mid setting of an adjustable. Handling wise, I'm very happy with the car, but obviously it would be best to compare it back to back with a modded and standard car to see if the suspension is as well balanced as it should be.

Hi Jon,

Glad you have had Trust shocks,

I was starting to think that mine were wrongly labelled as I can't find Trust shocks advertised anywhere.

Are your Trust ones coilovers?

I don't suppose you kept the good rear shock by any chance did ya! ;)

Justin

Sorry mate, I binned it ages ago and no, they're not coilovers.

You can get bog std import ones for about £35 each

Thanks mate but luckily I had the standard shocks as well with the car so they were put on.

Still not sure about uprated front and standard rears combo though.

If I do lower it and it has not already been done on the car will I need to adjust the toe-in and camber?

Justin

Did your fronts look like these?
