Well once again the car wont start, after replacing my head gasket about 5 month ago the car wouldnt start, after about a week of pissing about with this and that it started up and has run 100% up until now. It started first time every time, but going to work the other night I started it up and started to pull off but the revs dropped off and it cut out, I thought it was just cold as its stalled before on me but nooooooo it now wont start at all...back to how it was 5 month ago! Ive cleaned/played with/plugged and unplugged every connection known to man! I took the plugs out earlier and they were fueled up due to excessive cranking so i baked them, I took the fuel filter off and made sure there was fuel coming up and thats fine, i took the fuse from the fuel pump to try and burn off the excess fuel in the cylinders but when i tried it there was nothing. It cranks over fine but theres just no firing at all! Last time it didnt start I checked every electrical connection and they were all fine so im starting to think my ECU has gone down the crapper, does anyone have one lying about i could borrow to test my theory? Would put my mind at ease....anyhow enough rambling:D :xxx:

Have you done a ECU error check?

If there is no spark, it sounds like the PTU has actually broken.

Stuart

yeah did an ECU check and got a 55 which is no problems...

are you getting a spark? Has to be either that or lack of compression

if its like last time then it sparks on 4 cylinders i think yet all connections are 100%

ECU's seldom die, fisrt point of call for me would be the PTU

Well went out again and cleaned everything AGGGGGGGGAIN with a wire toothbrush thing and still nothing, by now the battery's getting slow so i thought i'd give it a jump start...and guess what...it fires up! a bit chuggy at first but soon flattens out, turn it off, starts fine, turn it off starts fine...get it warm, starts fine! WTF this car is mad! Thanks for the answers fella's...hoping it was just overfueled plugs + dodgy connections + cranking the battery down... lets hope.......

Every time I have to remove the coils for something, I always have problems with it not firing on all cylinders.

That is why I am getting a new harness for it ;)

We tryed my PTU last time he had this problem and it was the same!

Hi-

I had a similar problem- Took the car out, it felt a little sluggish then cut out. I managed to get it started again, so I checked out the link to 300zx.org, and there was a list of things electrical to try. With the engine running, the first thing I tried was the crank angle sensor connector, I touched it (Only moving it very, very slightly) and the engine cut. I unclipped it, cleaned it and sprayed with WD40 and since then - no problems. (It'll probably die now that I've said that!)

Leonard

Hi just thought i would let you know a similar problem I had. Started the car, turned off after a minute or so, came back to the car a few minutes later and it wouldn't start. Called the RAC out after messing about trying to start it. The RAC guy was great .....said it was overfuelling due to the temp sensor reading. He pulled the fuel pump fuse as you suggested and put the jump leads on. The car started after a bit of smoke. He said it was probably a one off and it has not happened again (that was about 4 months ago).

Cheers

Ady

yeah Ady thats what im thinking it was, i cleaned the temp sensor up and made sure it was on well. Got a new fuel filter coming tomorrow as when i took the other one off and emptied it, it was full of black fuel! not nice!

Something i noticed that kinda worried me was when i took the balance bar off to get to the rear plugs, the inside of the plenum is lined with oil/grime which defo cant be good! Anyone know any reason for that? Ive got bog std filters so i took them out and gave them a clean (they were black instead of being red!) so hopefully that may help....

If mine ever floods I dont know what I would do, when I replaced the fuel lines I tried removing the fuel pump fusible link but the engine still ran for ages, and never stalled. The only thing I can think of is that the Toad alarm and immobiliser over-rides the fusible link, possible for security reasons. If it does, it is a safety hazzard in itself, a fusible link is supposed to melt with heat, so in the case of an engine fire the fuel supply would be cut off.

Anyone got any suggestions for starting a flooded engine ? Is there another fuse that I can disconnect ?

Thanks

John

The fuel filter holds quite a bit of fuel so no doubt that has to run down too... I guess you could clamp one of the pipes after the filter to stop fuel getting through if worst comes to worst...not sure if it'd work.
