Hi,

Just before having the car serviced I started hearing the odd squeal whilst braking, had the garage take a look - they said pads were ok and cleaned the discs..

Now a couple of months later - it squeals just about every time I brake..

Dont know alot about the brakes - any ideas what i should be looking at, I think it is one of the front brakes...

Cheers

Did the garage check out both sets of brakes? You can change the pads yourself, its not hard.

Squeeling brakes doesnt really mean that they are not working correctly or something wrong.

It could be the wear indicator on the pads - they have a flap of metal which rubs on the disk when they wear to a certain level. There is still a fair amount of pad left at this point but its still worth changing them as the pad meterial helps dissipate the heat under braking - bugger all pad material and the brakes will fade very quickly ;)

Maybe worth checking out ;)

What pads have you got and do you know if shims were fitted with them. The easiest way to get rid of the squeal, is take the wheel off and rub some copper ease on the lip of the caliper whnere it goes across the disc and also on the back of the pads.

Don't put any on the pistons, discs or front of the pads though.
