Aha, Confucious say wise man ask what he last change when he have new problem! ;)

Have you got an aftermarket water temp gauge? If so what temp are you running at?

If not is the stock gauge noticably higher now? Or worse does it wander around? You might have air in the system or worse a total airlock in there somewhere. The rattle could be like the noises you get from knackered central heating?

Bleed it anyway, not too tricky... just take the rad cap and the bleed screw off and idle the engine over for a short while when cold, and top the coolant up through the rad cap side. Some reckon having the front of the car higher than the back when you do it helps too. (Parked on a sloping drive or on stands / ramps)

ENGINE MUST BE COLD otherwise you'll have 5 litres of coolant leaping out of the radiator under pressure, and don't have the engine on for too long for the same reasons.

When I had my water pump changed I had to bleed / top up several times before it all settled down.
